The Pod Express: The 20 billion Isk question

September 14, 2014

As many of you are aware, with Hyperion’s release you are now able to share overviews. While this has had some issues, most are happy with the new feature and what it brings to the table. Corporations and alliances are now able to set an overview as they want and simply share it.

What makes a good overview worth it?

A good overview should let you effortlessly find what you need and minimizes time searching through it, such as having a “capital only” tab or “hictors/dictors” tab. One that is just as important and an absence of can result in some costly losses is the “GTFO” tab A.K.A the “warp-out” tab. This tab lets you click on anything in the overview and you can just start click “warp-to” as your ship is close to death and providing you are not bubbled you will likely get away with your clone, and your dignity.

Today, we look at 5 pod losses that combined exceed 20 billion isk worth of implants.
Just like all Pod Express articles it follows 2 simple rules :

  • #1 It takes place in lowsec or highsec
  • #2 Smart bombs do not count

The first one is from Aela Taron and was lost in Deltole, this pod was valued at 4.7 billion isk with the majority of it coming from the lovely Genolution core CA-3 and CA-4’s. These implants are quite valuable and were given out earlier this year, their value comes from the tank bonus they give among other things. The CA-3 gives a shield capacity bonus and a velocity bonus and costs a staggering 1.9 billion isk and the CA-4 gives a agility bonus and an armor hit-point bonus. Not to mention costs slightly less at of 1.65 billion isk.

One would have hoped that losing a Naga would give enough time to swap over to the escape tab and start trying to get your pod out but this was not the case here.

Next on our list we have another similarly expensive capsule, this one however was not a suicide gank and happened in Jita and came at the hands of an “instant locking” Loki. Despite being called an instant locker it does actually take 2 full server ticks, one to lock the target and the second for the guns to activate.

We are now sitting just shy of the 10 billion isk mark and have 3 more capsules to go.

The next capsule was lost by Gaming God which despite his powers he was unable to manage to get his capsule to safety and lost it to an “Instant” Thrasher. “Instant” locking Minmatar boats with artillery are well liked because you can safely fit a light shield tank and use all your low slots for tracking and damage increasing modules to get there alpha volley out and to live through gate guns in lowsec, or through the gate guns in highsec but succumb later to Concord.

Our second to last capsule died in Aeschee. He found himself being shot at by an Augoror Navy Issue. This ship would have taken several seconds to lock the capsule, giving more than enough time for the capsule to initiate warp.

Our last capsule loss is another Thrasher with artillery ( are we sensing a pattern here?).

This loss took place in Tama and this “Tama’s Gone Redpilot was suddenly sent back to station to think about how much isk was lost when his capsule was killed.

The grand total of Isk lost in these 5 capsules comes to 22,187,440,000.

Thats 22 billion isk lost due to slow warp outs when in a capsule, to put this into perspective the Revenant that was recently killed costs around 5 x that for the hull currently. The isk lost on these capsules in total comes out to just shy of 28 plex, or if converted into dollars would come out around $490.

In closing- does your overview setup have an escape tab?  Are you prepared for the situation where your expensive pod is on the line? See you next time!
