Legion of Death Destroy FCON Fleet in Branch

June 30, 2014

A month ago the CFC alliance Fidelas Constans deployed to Geminate, one of the two neutral areas that remain in nullsec. We’ve seen multiple skirmishes between Legion of Death and FCON  in the region, but nothing quite on the scale of what occurred on 27th June, which would result in the destruction of 27 billion isk.

The fight began when a 200-man fleet composed of Legion of Death and friends began attacking FA Sovereignty Blockade Units in the system of UQ9-3C in Branch. Prior to the main fight the attacking fleet, mainly composed of Ishtars, destroyed two of the defensive SBUs, seeing off harassment in the form of an FCON bomber fleet.

Shortly after the destruction of the second SBU, FCON decided to engage the intruders head-on. They assembled a force of 150 pilots in the CFC’s trademark Baltecfleet doctrine, consisting of a roughly equal proportion of Megathrons and Apocalypses. Support was provided by triage carriers and a handful of logistics ships.

Initially it seemed as if FCON were gaining the upper hand, destroying Ishtars at a greater rate than they were losing battleships, with the carriers soaking up damage. However once the Ishtars positioned themselves better they quickly ripped into the CFC fleet. After they lost their triage support they didn’t stand a chance against the 175 Ishtars that now vastly out-gunned them.

FCON managed to disengage before their losses became too severe. They only lost 34 battleships by the end of the battle, a figure that could have been significantly higher if Legion of Death brought more interdictors. The combined cost of their losses came to 24 billion isk, not an insignificant amount of money for an alliance such as FCON. Legion of Death kept their losses to a minimum, losing only fourteen Ishtars to the tune of 4.3 billion isk in damage. With Legion of Death now one up over their temporary rivals, we’ll see if FCON are able to win the next confrontation.
