On May 29, 2016, over a period of about three hours, a battle occurred in the Sahtogas system. The battle, fought over a Shadow Cartel POS, began around 1800 EVE Time and consisted of two major engagements.
The battle began when forces belonging to the alliance Did He Say Jump, assisted by FETID, reinforced a Shadow Cartel tower in the system. As they were doing so, they lost a Naglfar belonging to thatmofoe to a drive-by doomsday. This set the stage for the following day’s battle.
At around 1800 EVE Time, a large Shadow Cartel Machariel fleet supported by Guardians arrived in the Sahtogas system and set up near their tower, with a secondary fleet belonging to Dead Terrorists ready to reinforce them. A few minutes after the tower exited reinforced mode, several fleets jumped into the system to engage them.
Did He Say Jump and Fetid were the first fleet to engage, with a force of primarily Machariels, assisted by Snuffed Out pilots in Tech 3 Cruisers and Guardians. After a few minutes, they were reinforced by a larger Waffles fleet of Tech 3 Cruisers, with Dead Terrorists joining the fray on Shadow Cartel’s side soon after.
This first engagement was a fairly even matchup, with both sides exchanging blows for about ten minutes or so. That changed after a Project.Mayhem fleet of Tech 3 Cruisers and Guardians arrived as reinforcements, along with a Did He Say Jump capital escalation.
This increased numbers difference played havoc with the defenders’ logistics and the battle quickly tilted in the attackers’ favor. Misuse of target spectrum breakers also resulted in several casualties. Ultimately, Shadow Cartel and Dead terrorists lost about fifteen Machariels and ten Guardians along with several other support ships before retreating into their tower’s shields.
After a short time, the defenders warped to the system’s station, and docked. They remained in system while the attacking fleets attacking the Shadow Cartel tower. After a short while, most of Did He Say Jump’s allies left the system, leaving a much smaller force for Shadow Cartel and Dead Terrorists to contend with.
Around thirty minutes after the end of the initial engagement, a second fight occurred. This second battle was fought primarily between Shadow Cartel and Dead Terrorists on one side, and Did He Say Jump and FETID on the other.
In the second battle, Dead Terrorists brought several dreadnoughts in to counter the Did He Say Jump capitals. In this exchange, Did He Say Jump lost all seven dreadnoughts, three Apostles, and a Thanatos while trying to destroy a Dead Terrorists Naglfar. This Naglfar heroically tanked throughout the destruction of all hostile capitals, ensuring that Shadow Cartel and Dead Terrorists were able to hold the field.
Ultimately, both sides lost a fair amount of ships, with the attacking forces winning the initial battle and Shadow Cartel and Dead Terrorists decisively winning the second round. You can view the battle report here.
