This morning two corporations; Pure Avarice. [.VERA] and What Could Go Wrong [3MIN.] announced that they would be leaving the Snuffed Out [B B C] alliance. Snuffed Out has been a major part of the Money Badger Coalition, and are engaged in actively fighting the CFC ever since their incursion into low-sec space.
Pure Avarice. has been a member of the Snuffed Out alliance since September 2015 with 70 members and What Could Go Wrong has been a member since October 2015 with just over 100 members. Both of these corps are AUTZ corps and will call into question Snuffed Outs ability to cover this time-zone going forward.
Both corporations cited the recent Snuffed Out awox of the Shadow Cartel titan and the accompanying two super-capitals on the 24th April as the main reason for leaving the alliance. You can read about the incident here.
Leonia Tavira, COO and Diplomat of Pure Avarice. sent out a very eloquent eve-mail regarding his corporations feelings about the situation and why his corporation had decided to leave.
Further to this mail, Dan Jintao, Diplomat and CEO of What Could Go Wrong sent out one of his own, which basically reinforced that his corporation was leaving for the same reasons. Some rumours had been around that [3MIN.] had already been thinking of leaving the alliance however Dan Jintao states that this was not the case until the Super-Capital awox happened.
Trust in this game is a very rare commodity, it is barely there and one of the first things a new player is told when trying Eve for the first time is ‘Don’t trust anyone’. Some alliances, corporations and players become known for being trustworthy, for their word being their bond and for standings to mean something when set.
Others are known for breaking those bonds and for just looking out for number one, no matter what the cost. Most have their prices before they break those promises and relationships. One person may break them for a couple of million ISK, others for a couple of billion. However for a large alliance to break a standings arrangement while engaged in a full scale war with another faction, just for a couple of kill-mails obtained under a flag of truce is bizarre.
What cost will Snuffed Out have to pay for a couple of minutes of adrenaline, a couple of shiny kill-mails and a lousy few billion in loot? So far it has cost them the trust of other organisations within EvE and around 170 pilots in two corporations. Will this be the final cost or is their more to come?
