Yesterday, on March 31st 2016, was the 15th episode of the o7 Show. Here’s a little recap for those that missed it!
CCP Mimic was joined by CCP Foxfour and CCP Bartender to announce the winners of the Developer API Challenge, a challenge CCP gave to all Eve players to make a program using Eve’s CREST API in less than 3 weeks. The four criteria to determine the winners were technical difficulty, creativity, clarity and polish. Without further ado, the winners were:
3rd place: Eve Fast Fitting Assessment, by Rischwa Amatin. This program is designed to quickly pull up the stats of a fit from a killmail, allowing you to quickly gain intel on an enemy by finding a possible fit that they’re using. Alternatively, you could use it to have your own ship’s stats on hand, if you are so inclined.
2nd place: Time for Eve, by Batian Styx. This is a really simple program, a watch interface that synchronizes with your Android phone and displays useful and relevant information.
CCP Seagull’s pick: Eve Online Contact Manager, by Julian Aldurald. This program simply allows you to move contacts between characters, an incredibly useful function for people that have a lot of alts.
1st place: Pathfinder, by Valtyr Farshield. This one is truly excellent: it finds you the shortest distance betweem star systems, including wormholes found through other programs. I definitely see myself using this one in the future.
Congratulations to all the winners! If you want to see more, here is the Dev Blog.
CCP had numerous segments about the current affairs of New Eden, notably the current war between the Money Badger Coalition (MBC) and the Imperium. They began with an announcement about Project Discovery: capsuleers have officialy gone through the entire database of pictures in less than three weeks! This certainly surpassed CCP’s expectations, as CCP Mimic even said herself that they estimated it would take players 2-3 months to analyze almost 5 million images. There will be a second round of validation, however, to ensure that it isn’t too repetitive, CCP Mimic explained that it would be a “consensus on the consensus”. Personally, I never really got into Project Discovery. I can only be fooled by cytoplasm so many times before I get salty and leave. A Dev Blog with more details will be posted soon.
CCP Guard and Mimic also took the time to mention a few upcoming Eve events:
-Eve North East 2016, which will be running from June 23rd to June 26th in Pennsylvania.
-Eve Glasgow, on April 2nd
-Melbourne Australia Meet, April 16th
Want to see if there’s an Eve meet somewhere near you? Here’s a list of all the planned events coming up!
Speaking of Eve meets, some of the minds behind Eve_NT will begin hosting the “Celebrity Shootout”, a 1v1 battle between two Eve personalities, with a theme given to the combatants to spice things up. The first fight in this series was between Chribba and Bluemelon, who were both fighting in Alliance Tournament Cruisers with Officer mods. Elise Randolph and Bei Artjay were invited to commentate the fight. I won’t spoil the outcome, so you’ll have to see it for yourself!
In regards to the Northern War, or World War Bee, CCP Guard invited DaBigRedBoat and Viley, of the Imperium and the MBC respectively, to answer questions about their view on the conflict. Both FC’s seemed extremely optimistic, Viley in particular had some extremely savage words for the Imperium. Lockefox also stopped by to give a special episode of the Eve Prosper Market Show, showcasing some of the effects the war has had on the market. Notably, we were shown that ratting in Guristas space has taken a steep dive, which will surely mess with the market a ton. Finally, Hendrick Tallardar gave a quick recap of the war for those that haven’t been in the loop recently.
Lastly, CCP Fozzie stopped by to give some more information about the upcoming Citadel Expansion, which will be released on the 27th of April, right after Fanfest. He started off by saying that so far, all of the upcoming changes have been going smoothly, with the capital changes being enjoyed by the capital focus group, and the citadel team doing great work as well. CCP Fozzie also explained some of the PvE aspects of the upcoming expansion as well, focused mainly on capital ships. “They don’t necessarily require capitals, but capitals will help a ton”. There will be a new set of Pirate NPC Capitals appearing only in Null-Sec. These will come in three variation: a normal Capital, a Commander Capital, and a Titan/Supercarrier for each Pirate faction. These new NPCs will not only appear in belts, but in anomalies as well. Personally, I love the idea, as it should promote teamwork among corpmates, possibly requiring multiple ships to kill. Raid boss, anyone? There will also be specially tailored Capital PvE in wormholes, where capitals are already used a lot for PvE. CCP will essentially be replacing the current form of capital escalation with fewer, tougher NPCs that will be specifically designed to fight capitals. Finally, CCP Fozzie announced a new boss for C5/C6 sites: the toughest Drifter (and NPC) ever created by CCP. This NPC will be using the new Drifter AI, meaning tackle is necessary to prevent it from warping off. Additionally, these Drifters will not go away after downtime. They’re most likely going to be worth a fortune as well.
That’s about it for this episode of the o7 show. If you’d like to watch the whole thing, you can do so here.
