2016 started off with some very sad news. Shonion, Leader of the ”crazy huns” Hun Reloaded, now known as FREE GATES COALITION has passed away.
Shonion was a great leader and he will missed by the whole EVE Community! A reddit thread was made for people to post their respect and you can find that here.
I really wanted to explain who Shonion was so I contacted members of his alliance who have provided me with a piece translated out of Hungarian:
Life is a game. You play it until your heart stops…
On the day of new year’s Eve, a good heart stopped. It beat relentlessly for 34 years for his fiancé, for his friends, for the good things. Then it decided it will not continue on the next year. As if it would say: „guys, was fun while it lasted, you go and play on!”. But we can’t play now. It is a time of remembrance. In this new year our heart is grieving. For you.
Our Dear Friend, Shonion!
You were one of the most wonderful, calm, determined, peaceful leader, and friend. Probably everyone in the Hungarian EVE community feels the same way, and perhaps those around the world as well, who had the chance to play along with you, or got to know you. You were one of the most important people of not just the Hungarian community, but the whole of EVE as well We think of you as the icon of the crazy huns, who smiles back at you every day, but a force to contend with if it comes to defending your space comrades.
In another game, life, as Gergely Gősi, you spent your life fiddling with bits and bytes as a programmer, you were loved by your colleagues, superiors. You dealt with your everyday life with utmost patience and serenity. About this we did not see much, just that you were content with your work.
We knew you as our space-buddy, our leader. Your gaming career peaked in EVE, although you had adventures elsewhere before. Let’s see these highlights.You were a natural born leader even in your early days of playing EVE: You started playing it on a foggy November day with one of your friends; however you decided to play your 10 years annual battles in the Free Gates of Heaven. Rumor is, that even you could only pilot a beginner level hauler, when you met other Hungarians ingame, you gathered them together, and forged them into a capable team. You founded the Bounty Hunters corp with your friends, which later merged into the Hungarian Rangers [HU-RA] corp later, where you spent over 10 months. After this, with a couple of guys you went separate ways, and joined the Free Gates Corporation [FGC] on the 20th of September 2007, and remained a member until the end. Although you did not start off as its leader, but patience and determination carried you up the ladder slowly but surely.
The early days
FGC was part of the TSC [The Sphere Confederation] alliance, to which [HU-RA] joined later as well. Here Shonion came in contact with the majority of the Hungarians, the FGC, and the JMU [Jugis Modo Utopia] corp with whom he became close friends with. During this time he switched corps and became the member of the – at that time – mainly carebear FGC. TSC at that time was one of the border-alliances of BOB (Band of Brothers), which almost completely got destroyed in 2007 by the overwhelming forces of the anti-BOB coalition. TSC had no choice but to move to Fountains NPC region. Here he got introduced to HUN Reloaded [RAX], a small alliance which mainly consisted of the Hun Corp, which he later became its CEO. TSC fought side by side with RAX against the invading forces of Fountain, where Shonion had a chance to hone his FC skills winning one battle after another. They could only fight guerilla warfare with the small amount of pilots they had against the overwhelming forces, which caused many problems between the players who had different individual goals and views. He organized a small frigate tournament in January 2008 for his friends. He improved its prizes by spending much from his personal wallet, to be able offer the winners a substantial and motivating prize. He was a giving person in his, and his corps name as well, which quickly made him more and more popular in the Hungarian community.
When TSC disbanded, FGC and JMU joined the Destiny alliance and moved to Deklein. During those 4 months he grew to be the CEO of his corp until quitting the alliance. At this time the corp went through a major revamp, and changed to a more fight oriented playstyle.
After another short time in Fountain FGC joined up with the Axiom Empire alliance, what led to joining BOB again. During this time the corp had time and opportunity to improve both their PVP and PVE skills, but it did not really felt like home, so along with JMU, and the newly joined WOT (Wings of Turul) corp they joined the Skunk-Works alliance. Here his 0.0 life flourished with his corp, he became better and better FC. They remained with Skunk-Works until the very end of the GBC (Greater Bob Community).
Partnership with some smaller alliances followed: Agression, Southern Cross Alliance, THE KLINGONS, all in the southern parts of the galaxy. During this time he played a major part in getting the well-recognized „Crazy Hungarians” nickname of the FGC-WOT-JMU coalition.
He attended several games conventions in Hungary in 2009 to advertise EVE online.The Great Hungarian Alliance Era
On the 26th of November, 2009, the Crazy Huns answering to the calling of the Hun Reloaded alliance, they joined forces, creating the „all-Hungarian alliance„ dream-team. Although there was never a real all-Hungarian coalition, but RAX was grew to be the biggest group of Hungarian EVE players. After shaking up the RAX guys into shape, they moved again to Fountain where Shonion had a station built, and helped to expand the Hungarian community.
Many people, many different goals. Although he became the CEO of RAX after about 1,5 years, this period was not without conflicts. Managing these conflicts well, after the Fountain period followed a time in Curse, and Delve, where he could command 100+ man fleets under the RAX flag. Here we met and became good friends with the Nulli Secunda alliance. People started to respect and follow his command and judgement in those confusing 0.0 times. Developing close and good relations with Nulli after the „Delve Sandbox” time RAX became a faithful ally in the new N3 coalition. He made friends with many people in the international circles. Corporations came and went, merged with FGC, as well as it grew by new individuals joining. Under his command, FGC became stronger and more organized. He was also one of the contenders of the RAX team in 2012 Alliance Tournament where the alliance achieved second place, leaving with the memorable moment of the shaved mustache of Michael Bolton.
During, and after the tournament he lived in Fountain for months for the fourth time. Then it got boring and one-sided. There was a need for change, so he followed N3 to Immensea, where we held SOV and built another station in the constellation the huns lived during that time, keeping close friendship with N3.
By the time of the Alliance Tournament in 2013 the inner conflicts rose to a level where it could not be handled anymore, which took its toll in our performance. After the unsuccessful tournament he felt it would have been better to leave RAX with his corp. This led to another intermission in Fountain.Nulli Secunda and others
Nulli immediately expressed their desire for FGC to join with them, but after leaving RAX, Free Gates had a good time in Fountain causing headache to the locals and achieving a good place in the second New Eden Open as a member of the Kolbasz Inside team. After the fifth period of Fountain he accepted the invitation of Nulli, and convinced others to join as well. Here he made FGC an important part of the alliance, encouraging the members to join pvp operations whenever they can.
In 2014 his corp again participated in the Alliance Tournament, XII, where, under his command, we achieved a surprising 2nd place again, for which he worked hard for, investing great effort and resources. The size, activity, and widespread recognition of FGC peaked under his lead.Although changes in the game led to the disband of N3 Coalition, Shonion relentlessly kept expanding the corporations supercapital fleet. The winds of change caught up to the S2N alliance, and we had to abandon Feythabolis, not to get crushed by the overwhelming invading forces. Shonion and the FGC stood until the last moments in these battles, as did in previous alliances.
He had an important part in Alliance Tournament XIII. S2N started to fall apart, but Shonion’s determination and stamina led his corp out of the chaos.
Few notable mentions of his achievements in the Hungarian community:
- during his career he built 4 stations in various regions
- achieved 2nd placement twice, and 3rd placement once on Alliance Tournament
- his immense killboard record will not be surpassed by any huns for a while
- he had hundreds of friends from all around the world due to his friendly and selflessness
- he was the best of the Hungarian community, and shall remain so in everyone’s heart.
During his 6th period in Fountain, life intervened, and you had to leave this community.
On the 31th of December, 2015, he suffered a heart attack. The doctors battled for his life for 40 minutes, but ultimately were unsuccessful saving him from the grasp of death. He left a great void in everyone’s heart who knew him. He is mourned by his fiancé, his sister, parents, relatives, friends, colleagues, and many space-friends he met in the game, and some that had a chance to meet him in person.
Our Dear Friend, Shonion! We sincerely hope, in the name of the whole community, that this forever lasting afternoon nap you began, will bring you better dreams for You!
