The Charity Rumble event last week enjoyed by over 4,000 attendees has been mired in scandal today after a schism between EOC.tv creators and the Evil At Work umbrella company. Early in the development of EOC.TV the Umbrella Corporation Evil at Work signed up the EOC.tv creative team and assisted them in developing the site. Evil at Work is also working on several projects including the upcoming gambling site Evecasino
EOC.TV launched its Beta platform some six months ago to welcome applause as the first dedicated EVE based media service. Led by its creators James and TehJackal it has been been going from strength to strength. This eventually culminated in one of the biggest and most ambitious player events ever held, the EOC.TV Rumble, as a promotion to help launch EOC.TV out of Beta and into Version 2. The event itself was a massive success.
However, things behind the scenes did not reflect the outgoing success. James and TehJackal found themselves locked out of their creation after access to the website was restricted. They became bogged down by ongoing bureaucracy having to pass everything through the Evil At Work production team. The update to the site itself was delayed for over a week as communication between the EOC.TV team and the Evil at Work team began to fall apart.
From there things only further deteriorated as it quickly became apparent that something was not right with funding given to the event. Evil at Work claimed that the the event itself raised in excess 270 billion ISK. Even after the huge costs, which included 160 billion for ships (including a Titan), towers and other such organisational expenses there would have been 110 billion ISK for prizes and charities.
Eve’s most trusted 3rd party Chribba was tasked with overseeing its distribution to the winners. However not all the funding was received, and the charity donations were never forthcoming.
James and TehJackal put the Evil at Work project team under ever increasing pressure to release the funds to the respective charities and for the prizes after over a week of delays. But as of this time only Care4Kids have received any funds totalling 10 billion ISK.
When challenged on this the Evil at Work team responded with promises of delivering the rest of the money once their new casino site had started generating income.
One can only speculate as to what happened to the remaining funds – if there were any funds left over at all. But it was the final straw for James and TehJackal as they decide to disassociate themselves from any of the Evil At work projects. This of course also potentially includes their creation – EOC.TV.
J.Mcclain from the charity Best of Us has confirmed they have not received a donation directly from Evil at Work. James and Jackal have however secured a 10 billion isk donation through their contacts at EVE-Bet and have send this to J.Mcclain. J.Mcclain has also expressed his support to the EOC.TV creators condemning the organisation and handling of the event by Evil At Work.
In addition to the donation raised for the Best of US, James and Jackal have secured an additional 5 billion ISK from EVE-Bet and another 5 billion ISK from one of the Titan pilots – General StarGazer. These funds have been forwarded to Chribba to use at the next PLEX for good drive organised by CCP.
The in Eve support group for sick children, Care4Kids also recieved an additional 10 billion ISK generously supplied by EVE Bet. C4w3, head of the Care4Kids program expressed his disappointment in the outcome. He did however express his gratitude to the EOC.TV team, James and TehJackal, for their hard work in ensuring the charities receive the promised donations.
James & TehJackal have made an offer to purchase the EOC.TV domain name in an attempt to save all the hard work that has been put into the website over the last few months but at this time no resolution has been reached. They are however not dissuaded and intend to continue working on new community based projects away from Evil at Work intending to focus on the positive side of the Eve community. They intend to build a new version of EOC.TV under the name fleetwarp.com.
