This past Wednesday in San Bernardino, California, two armed men walked into the Inland Regional Center and opened fire on the crowd. There were 21 wounded and 14 deaths. It has been confirmed today that one of these victims was Robert Adams, also known as Photon Torpedo. He was an Eve player, a member of The Bastion. One of us. A friend of his family has set up a Go Fund Me page to support his wife and child, and within less than two hours 9000$ have been raised.
We may be considered to be one of the most hardcore groups of gamers out there. We may comprise mostly of sociopaths, backstabbers, trolls, gankers and other nefarious types of people, but when something real happens, the Eve community always proves that it is one of the most loyal and devoted to helping its fellow player. This incident, and the reaction of our community, has only bolstered my belief that behind our screens, the Eve community is filled with incredible people. Even CCP Karkur tweeted out how proud she was about the support that Eve players are giving to this man’s family.
