A fight between Content Ring (Cloud Ring) residents Suddenly Spaceships/The OSS and The-Culture resulted in more than 20 billion ISK of losses thanks to the support of batphoned NCdot.
Despite OSS and Suddenly Spaceships being out numbered 45 to 131, excellent triage was able to reduce the potential slaughter. In the end 15 ships, valued at almost 15 billion ISK were lost by SS/OSS, 36 ships worth nearly 7 billion ISK were lost by The-Culture/ NCdot side.
We spoke to raijas, one of the Suddenly Spaceships triage pilots who gave me his side of the battle.
“The evening started calmly, getting ready for a casual op. Suddenly, there was a call of 50+ Culture spotted in 1-3HWZ (Suddenly Spaceships home system) comprising of Cerberuses and Tornados. They started entosising the station. Buhhdust Princess looked at the numbers and decided to call in help from long term bro’s and neighbours The OSS. A 45-man fleet was formed to counter, comprising mainly of two Triage Archons and Apocalypse Navy Issues.
“The gang on the station was chased off and the station repaired. Culture hit the ihub and the engagement started there. Culture started burning towards the SS/OSS fleet with the FC at the head. The FC was headshotted (taken out at the beginning of the fight) but not podded. Soon after, NCdot warped onto field with 50 T3’s and armor logi. Cephei Kells (OSS) was the main FC as Buhhdust Princess lost connection during the fight. At this point, the triage was sitting 30-40 km behind the navy apocalypse fleet with the main fight going down on the ihub. Culture and NC. tried to break the carriers but failed.
“Blows were traded with The-Culture and NCdot who started to lose Guardians, Cerbs and T3’s. After approximately five minutes of fighting a cyno appeared behind our triage carriers and 8 culture dreads appeared. The triage kept the fleet repped whist[sic] the SS/OSS fleet evacced. Props given to my fellow carrier pilot (Demetri Slavic). It was good fun to get a fight outnumbered. It was a fun fight, I enjoyed it very much even though I lost my carrier.”
When asked about the officer modules fit to his Archon, he responded with ‘Well, why not! It’s perfectly fitted’. And it certainly was with; Corpus X-type resists, meta cap modules, faction cap rechargers paired with Tech 2 rigs and triage module.
The-Culture FC, Raknor Bile, was also available to provide an alternate perspective to the fight.
“I decided to form a Cerberus gang and started reinforcing the 1-3 station to see if we could draw out a fight from SS. We got intel that SS/OSS were forming a navy apoc gang and had around thirty faction battleships supported by triage.
“This is about as hard a counter to Cerbs as possible so I decided to call for back up. Luckily NCdot had a proteus fleet in the area so I asked them to come lend a hand. They bridged in whilst we kept SS/OSS interested. We drew them to the ihub and told NCdot to come. We could not break the tanks on the triage so I asked NCdot if they had a heavy cyno in their fleet.
“We lit the cyno and dropped dreads, this worked out perfectly with both triage getting hell dunked. By this stage though, all our dictors were dead and we could not tackle any of the battleships so they managed to warp out with the loss of a single proteus and vindicator.
Reports of the battle were posted on reddit with comments of good fights and good fun.
It will be interesting to see if battles like this will continue to happen following the upcoming capital changes. Both carriers in this fight refitted multiple times to adjust for incoming DPS or capacitor needs as required. New plans unveiled at Eve Vegas will reduce a pilot’s ability to refit during combat, forcing them to wait out their weapons timer before switching modules, this combined with the upcoming force auxiliary capitals look set to change capital engagements as we know them.
Good fight Suddenly Spaceships/The OSS/The-Culture and NCdot!
