Shaking Up the Meta

CCP have announced a LOT of new things in the past few weeks. Even before Eve Vegas we were given new info about Citadels, new Faction EWAR Frigs, and Capital ship changes that even include a whole new type of Capital! While I’m by no means an expert on such things (I’m many months away from flying Capitals, never mind properly flying one), I’m nevertheless extremely excited for these upcoming changes, as I think they will heavily impact the meta. Let’s begin, shall we?

Reworked Capital Ships

First off, the Capital changes announced at Eve Vegas last week. For those who don’t know, CCP plan on giving all Capitals Fleet and Ship Hangars, as well as the ability to act as a refitting station for members of their fleet. Additionally, Carriers will no longer be the space-healers they used to be: instead, Triage will be moved over to a whole new type of ship, the Force Auxiliary Capital. Carriers will instead focus on using Fighters, switching their role from Healer to DPS. I really can’t wait to see these new ships. I may not be able to fly one, but these changes are certainly going to change fights all across New Eden. Now that Carriers are more damage-oriented, catching and killing one might become much harder than before, which could become an interesting challenge for the groups that specialize in hunting them down. All in all, really excited to see what people do with these!

EWAR Frigates

Oh boy, it’s happening! Every race is going to be getting a Faction version of their EWAR Frigate (Crucifier Navy Issue, Griffin Navy Issue, Maulus Navy Issue and Vigil Issue for Amarr, Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar respectfully) that will come with a mix of bonuses to damage and, you guessed it, Electronic Warfare. These things are gonna be absolutely HUGE, especially in Faction Warfare. I’m already trying to think  of a few fits for me and my corpmates to use for future roams. Just think of a fleet of EWAR ships that can hold their own against enemies! A lot of people are going to come up with some extra evil ways to extract tears, and new ways to counter them will be required as well. Definitely a great way to shake things up!

Citadels

Lastly, more details about the upcoming Citadels have been given, and damn, these things are looking more interesting than ever before. We now know more about the different components of the structure, which can be broken down into Hull, Modules, Service Modules, Rigs and Fuel Blocks.

I’m no industrialist, but damn, Citadels are looking to be one of the coolest changes in the history of Eve, hands down. Not only are they going to require a lot of time and money to build, but they are going to completely alter something that I’ve heard tons of people complain about: POS bashing. I can’t help but wonder just how long it would take to kill the various sizes of Citadel, even without a hostile fleet to defend it. Taking down one of these bad boys, whether a medium or an extra-large one, seems infinitely more fun than the current system we’ve got.
