The Importance of Good POS Passwords

September 6, 2015

Foedus Latro of Isogen 5 today did something many people have often wondered about doing, but may never get the opportunity to. After working his way from his alliance’s C6 wormhole home, and down a wormhole chain, Foedus landed in HB-5L3 in Cobalt Edge.

After flying around and scouting the system he found a tower with a selection of ships. Each one of them just sat idle within the shields where pilots had ejected from them including Megathrons and Rattlesnakes.

I warped at range to their tower and started working out the best way to take these ships.

On the off chance that the passwords for the pos had been set to something simple Foedus tries some basic hacking. He entered ‘1234’ into his ‘enter starbase password’ option and clicked ‘warp to’. To his surprise he exited warp in the force field surrounded by the empty ships. Unable to believe his luck he told his corp-mates and to get there as fast as possible and start looting ships.

Scheldor Imperator the owner of the pos was in local, so I was spamming D-Scan to see if he would warp to the tower to try and reclaim all his assets. I had also noticed that there were two Chimeras in system on a nearby moon so I put all my effort into finding where they were and to see if that POS had the same password too.

After narrowing down the moon, Foedus warped to it, and once again found himself within the pos shield now sat next to two Chimeras. By this stage, his corp members had arrived from the wormhole chain and were loading all as many of the hulls they could into a Bowhead. The loot can be seen below.

A Panther pilot was called over to to bump the Chimeras out of the POS shield, and as soon as they were outside the bubble, they were scrambled and held in place.

We decided to finished up by killing the carriers and all the ships ejected from their SMAs we couldn’t take either because we didn’t have the pilots for it or the space in the Bowhead.

In the mean time, we manage to catch Scheldor warping around the system by bubbling his destination, where we killed his Iteron V and his Billion ISK pod.

The best part about this whole adventure was that it took place in a station system, all the ships that were stolen or destroyed could have been safely docked in station, but instead had been left floating in the POS.

All related kills can be found here.

When asked to about the losses, Scheldor Imperator only confirmed that they had indeed happened, and that his POS password had been 1234.
