After the success of my first article, I decided to create a series of articles, questioning willing people in EVE. This ranges from CEOs of big corporations and alliances, to small groups of players doing their own thing independent of what the large alliances are doing. If you know someone worth interviewing, or someone with a great story to tell, mail me in game. My first candidate is Speedtouch, CEO of EON alliance, and his corporation, Cathouse Club, a German speaking alliance based out of Delve and Period Basis.
Speedtouch has been a member of the EVE community since 2004. Talking about why he first joined EVE he stated:
“ Actually I joined because of my friends. I like space games and the idea of a sandbox game with unforeseeable paths and ways to play is what first aroused my interest. In that time, other space video games have been more or less pathed, following a scripted story or game board as a player. Being able to interact with the game-world completely was, and still is, something very unique”.
Ten years ago, the world of New Eden was completely different. I asked Speedtouch what he felt had changed since his early days with the game.
“In my eyes, EVE is constantly changing. However, influence and relevance of individuals has been altered to a lesser degree throughout the years. Leaders of block power or large alliances indeed extended their influence since Dominion SOV was added to the game, as the map shows. Solo PVP has almost disappeared, apart from a few veterans. Players themselves are able to enjoy PVP in fleets or groups nowadays, and fleet warfare, and the game of numbers, has become more prevalent in the game.
I trust in that what people do rather than what they say. I think being open minded and trustworthy to other people has led me to the position I hold today, organizing and building EON alliance internally from what it was, to what it is now.”
Speedtouch believes in doing things right himself, rather than trying to fix other people’s problems. He wants to see EON become the relevant alliance for German speaking players, stating:
“I’d like to see EON becoming relevant for the German speaking community and offer those people a home and place to enjoy EVE and spend their time with us as much as possible. I’d like to see the German speaking community look up to EON realizing that this alliance is not an undertaking driven by selfish people running blind into their only-short-term future.”
He further states that the most important thing about managing a corporation is:
“Work. Work to motivate active players to share interest on more than their own ones without neglecting their real life’s. Additionally to steer and distribute responsibilities in a manner that allows everybody to find themselves being part of EON bringing value.”, and in the next year, he sees his corp, Cathouse Club [P4LUV], continuing to grow in size, strength and importance. He continues, saying “EON is an interesting new homeland for all members of the German speaking community.
EON is a new and attractive alliance, improving the meaning of running together within the German-speaking PVP community. EON stands for unity and change. We intend to break things ourselves rather than getting broken by others. We are smarter and faster than others. We don’t know exactly yet why it works, but for now, it works for us. Fozzie SOV is offering us a new chance, and we accept. Fozzie SOV offers new ways of life, and new homes. EON is a new home!”
As you can see, Speedtouch is enthusiastic about EON alliance. Looking at their killboards, you can see why: 59th in ISK efficiency, and 518th in ship efficiency indicates they are doing something correctly. EON is also part of a Delve and Period Basis coalition, Elite Space coalition [ESC], consisting of Ev0ke, EON Alliance , Explicit Alliance and 9 more alliances. [ESC] has high hopes for the next year, aiming to both conquer and hold Delve for themselves. Speedtouch is confident in both his alliance and his own abilities, but the next year will show us what both EON and Speedtouch are capable of. As a final comment, he jokingly says:
“Go away Pandemic Legion!”
