Revenant Destroyed in Placid [video]

July 9, 2015

A rare type of supercarrier, the Revenant, was destroyed in Placid (Vey) earlier today.  The 105 Billion ISK ship was piloted by Elissim4U who was working for the corporation Nocturnal Romance, of the Cynosural Field Theory alliance. The pilot was an alt of a player known as TinkerHell, widely known for using his Revenant to drop on other capitals.

The ship was baited, captured, and subsequently destroyed by the Snuffed Out Alliance, putting an end to the Revenant’s career.

We received intel on a cloaked Erebus in Vey. We moved a cyno and bridged in HICs, decloaked the Erebus, brought in some battleships and TinkerHell’s Revenant.

It turned out that the Erebus was bait. A Purifier with a cyno decloaked as soon as the Revenant jumped in, and a fleet of Snuff Box subcaps with HICs followed.

The Revenant managed to warp out, but it was caught as soon as it landed.

From the fitting, the pilot appeared to be fighting off smaller tackling ships at the time of destruction, and was probably fit to do damage rather than tank. This indicated the pilot was effectively baited and unprepared for the scenario that befell him.

The victim, TinkerHell, is one of EVE’s wealthiest players, and is said to be a collector of ships, including a number of Alliance Tournament prize ships, as well as a fleet of Titans (Reddit reference).

The Revenant class supercarrier  is one of the most expensive ships in EVE, aside from unique ships. Although its value exceeds 100 Billion ISK for the hull alone, at one time a Revenant was valued at 750 Billion or more. Now, years after their blueprints were released with the Incursion expansion, the price has normalized and settled at around the price of a well fitted Titan.

This marks the 3rd Revenant loss this year, and the fourth in recent memory.

*update: “Dark razor had a event to kill a rev but no mail was made.” – raknor bile in comments section. This would have marked four Revenant kills this year, five in recent memory.
