Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen! It has been a while since I have written anything due to other engagements and what-not (I am fairly sure you couldn’t care less and I have more important things on my mind) but this is something i feel I have to get off my chest.
Anyway, to the point. I think we can all agree that CCP have been doing a fine job over the last few months, working to improve the game for us as players and improve the public image of EVE Online in general. They have made great strides to remove stagnation, improve the enjoyment for us players and take innovative and modern approaches to game design that previously we did not see from the developers as much as we would have liked. For this they must be given credit where credit is due; I appreciate their work and I am sure there are many others out there who do as well.
However something has come up that has upset myself and seeming upset others out there. When CCP announced the reintroduction of alliance logo submissions people where happy. The review process had dragged on far too long and CCP had not been open enough along the process. Finally, however, it is back and we do not for much longer have to look at some of the biggest alliances in-game sitting with the generic alliance image, or do we?
It seems that while the submission process has been opened up again, it is now far more strict, with some very understandable and very acceptable changes. The problem is that some alliance logos are being rejected for seemingly silly reasons, with their logo submissions unoffensive, well-designed and/or not out of place at all. Not only is this a problem, but over and above this CCP have been reviewing old alliance logos that are already in the game and have rejected some of them too.
So far, many alliance logos have yet to be reviewed but there are some that have already been rejected. For example, General Tso’s Alliance;
In this case chop sticks and a takeaway box (takeout for those of you who speak only American). Something that is widely recognized and something that I would think would more than likely be just as at home in a futuristic setting. If this is an example of something that CCP won’t allow then Fat Bee and Middle Management Dino don’t fit into their image of the game either and for CCP not to remove them would be completely hypocritical. Do not take that as me saying that they should be removed, if CCP were to remove logos as iconic as that it would be a travesty.
Are all the logo’s in-game good? No, definitely not. Some are boring. Some are dumb. Some are amazing but wouldn’t fit into CCP’s idea of ‘correct’. The point is, EVE has always been a game where players have been allowed to express themselves, in the way they play, in the things they do and in the logos the choose with which to represent themselves.
I am by no means saying that there shouldn’t be some regulations. CCP need to protect copy rights, which is understandable. We can’t have alliances having giant veiny penises as their logo, understandably. Other than that players should be allowed to represent themselves how ever they like.
