Earlier today yet another Nyx was killed, this time in the lowsec system of Thelan in the Sinq Liason region after apparently being baited and then counter dropped in a successful trap as explained below. This is the 9th Nyx to be destroyed in the month of March.
The Nyx was piloted by Zargone of the TunDraGon [TDG] corporation in the Gate Camp Theory [GATE] alliance. He was successfully destroyed by Dead Terrorists [IKILU] and Knights of the Posing Meat [FETID] who provided the bait with friends Already Disbanded [AD] working alongside both of them.
I approached Letelio Denmun, CEO of [IKILU], for details on the event and he pointed me to Tickalsiinz of [FETID] who baited the kill as well as detailing his own view.
In order to following the events chronologically I shall first explain the information acquired from Tickalsiinz:
Having already lost a carrier to [TDG] a week ago we knew this guy gladly drops his Nyx on something juicy. So we took this opportunity to bait them out a few weeks later. We saw his scout/cyno in system today so we decided to try to bait him out with [IKILU] on standby. We warped a bait fitted Archon out to a mission and it didn’t take long until combat probes were on scan and he was pointed by a Tengu and a HIC shortly in warp. A cyno went up soon after and with our scout cloaked off their cyno we had eyes on it and called when the Nyx started warping to the mission. With the NYX on its way to our bait we undocked our HICs and our carrier support group and called for [IKILU] to light their cyno and jump in. After getting prime tackle on the Nyx Tickalsiinz dropped fleet so DR had a warp in, Seconds later [IKILU] landed and 10 minutes later, it died. The killmail above shows the fruits of their labour and the viewpoint from the batphone [IKILU] is described below from information provided to me by Letelio Denmun.
From 17:00 onwards we in [IKILU] & [AD] had formed a Slow-Cat and Black-Ops fleet with a view to defending a tower near Thelan (where the Nyx kill occurred). Meanwhile our buddies in [FETID], who actually live in Thelan, had also formed to support us with this. By 17:30 we were on the verge of standing down insofar as the group which had hit our tower showed no signs of activity. Nonetheless, our keen eyed friends in [FETID] had noticed that they were being watched by a known cyno-alt of Tundragon that had a local reputation for dropping Zargone’s Nyx onto the field, especially with a view to killing mission running carriers in and around Thelan. This being the case, the [FETID] guys sent a bait Archon into a mission and made the necessary preparations for tackling Zargone should he decide to pay them a visit. Sure enough within minutes of beginning the mission, Tundragon tackle came in and pointed the bait Archon whilst the Nyx logged in and promptly jumped onto an off-grid cyno before warping into the mission. [FETID] and their friends immediately pounced into action, landing well placed HICs within point range of the Nyx and bringing in additional Archons to support the initial bait. Whilst this was happening, and [FETID] confirmed tackle, our Archons and BLOPs jumped into the neighbouring system, went through the gate and took the 40au warp to where the Nyx was tackled. By the time we landed only one of the initial tackle HICs had been killed and several more of our Archons reshipped into additional HICs from their maintenance arrays, thereby, confirming the fate of the partially tanked super which was already breaking to the [AD]/[IKILU]/[FETID] fleet.
My compliments go out to Zargone for using his Nyx as he did, solo hot-dropping carriers in a super is truly old school, the stuff of legends. Also to [FETID] and their bro’s who made the immensely complicated task of baiting and tackling a super look immensely easy. Finally, my apologies to the [IKILU]/[AD] guys that didn’t manage to get on the kill – as if they needed another reason to train for something with a jump-drive.
Even though it appears that this would be a costly affair to simply to drop on a mission running carrier whilst there were actives in local, it appears to not faze the pilot as his sole statement was “already replaced” and this time it is clearly true as shown below. This kill is time stamped 19:19 this evening with Zargone in a Nyx killing this Heron when the previous ship was lost at 17:44.

Either there clearly was a spare on an alt or this is just to keep up a brave face and has in fact been loaned to him by another pilot to imply that it has already been replaced. Will this be the last loss of the month or is there still time for more? Is the next month going to also be strewn with the debris of super-capitals and titans alike? I sure hope so.
