Goonswarm Federation Leviathan downed by Snuffed Out

March 17, 2015

Early in the morning of the 17th March 2015 in the system of Aunenen, Lonetrek region a Leviathan Titan belonging to Jacob Warden of the Goonswarm Federation corporation Repercussus [-R.P-] was destroyed by members of the Snuffed Out alliance, a well know low-sec alliance which includes corps such as Snuff Box, Doughboys and Ice Fire Warriors.

It wasn’t a straight forward gank with no losses for the Snuffed Out forces though, as pings went out to let the rest of the CFC know that this was going on and a force from local [-R.P-] assets formed up to go to the aid of the tackled titan.

While they were unable to save the doomed titan, they did manage to snag a couple of the Snuffed Out ships, including a Panther Black Ops battleship and a Phobos Heavy Interdiction Cruiser. The full battle report can be found here.

I managed to speak to [-R.P-] CEO Troyd23 who gave me a rundown of what happened;Troyd23

Overall, Snuff Box in general has been watching our super movements in the area for awhile. One of their more dedicated pilots noted a few habits regarding the movement of a few of our supers and as a result managed to get on top of this particular Levi in question who was moving in our offtimezone (mistake 1) with a cyno ship.

All of our Super pilot’s are a bit eager to get their ships out west for the upcoming sov warfare and this pilot in particular didn’t’ take the proper fitting or cyno precautions (he was tank fit, mistake 2) would usually take. To his credit he did use a suicide cyno. The system in question is a cyno bottleneck, and a common place for supers and various capitals to transit through. It’s sad to see a legacy Titan die (still had large rigs) and of course we’ve placed a new Levi in the oven. Had the pilot been a little more patience, he would still have a titan.

We did (as a corp) rage ping and managed to scramble a fleet on grid to watch its destuction. We killed a few snuff ships(A panther during and a hic after), unfortunately we weren’t able to down the insert cyno in time or prevent additional hics / guardians / supers from getting in.

We’re unaware of any server issues, more specifically – Nobody mentioned server issue on our end. I’m curious what snuff noticed on their end. We just saw a well placed tackle complicated by complacency. To splash other rumors, yes he was in Titan Swarm, CFC Military was aware of the situation in under a minute and I can confirm the Welp God is pleased with our offerings; so expect a fruitful campaign for the CFC in Fountain.

Snuff has done me a bit of a favor here, the remaining horde of Repercussus super pilots have been properly reminded of the consequences of complacency and the value of patience through the best teacher of all, pain and destruction.

So props to Snuff for catching one of my Titans. A very rare feat indeed.

Yes, I can confirm we are moving pvp assets to fountain, and that this pilot getting excited / was ahead and moving on his own contributed to his demise.

A leaked broadcast from the CFC Jabber shows that the Military Command, while undoubtably shaking their heads in collective horror at this loss, and that of a RAZOR Aeon a couple of days ago in Venal, know how to take it on the chin and show they have a sense of humor;Blawrf

(12:30:34 AM) directorbot: We here at MILITARY COMMAND would like to thank Razor and Repercussus for their noble sacrifices to the Welp God. Your generous donations will secure us a fruitful campaign.

One interesting thing is that the CFC seem to be setting up for a large scale defense of the region of Fountain and are looking to commit super-capitals if they need to. Whether this will actually happen, or they are just positioning their assets so that threat of them being in the area discourage the N3/BL. alliances using their own super-capitals is still open to debate.

I am sure this loss will remind anyone who is looking to re-position such assets that they should wait for corp/alliance level orders and protection to do so, especially if the route is through a well known bottleneck system, as was the case here.

EN24 approached Snuffed Out for comment but have so far received no response except to talk about mainframes and hacking. Is there a reason behind these comments? According to [-R.P-] CEO Troyd23 there were no server issues at the time so we do not know what these references are about.

Amazingly there has been a recent spate of super-capital and titan losses. Since the 1st March there have been 5 titans lost, including two Avatars, two Leviathans and a Erebus and then there have also been 5 super-carrier losses which include 2 Nyx, 2 Aeon and a Hel. Over all 10 of those kills around 700 billion ISK has been destroyed.

It’s been a bad month to be a super-capital pilot.
