The Minmatar are just starting to recover from the Amarr Militia’s assault that took 100% of the Amarr/Minmatar warzone for the first time in history (under the current FW mechanics). Unfortunately, they find themselves as the militia with the lowest active population, having lost over 2/3rds of their elite militia pilots to the lures of piracy or other aspects of EVE. They also find themselves as the only militia to never fully control a war zone and so arguably they have a newfound reputation as the worst of the militias.
This leaves the militia vulnerable, whilst some of the Minmatar veterans remained loyal to the cause such as Ushra’Khan, Minmatar Brotherhood, Hoplite Brigade, The Ghosts of Deep Space and remnants of Late Night Alliance. Other names that struck fear into the hearts of Amarr are still sadly absent from the militia such as Smile ‘n’ Wave, The Periphery, Iron Oxide and Global ISK Network.
The Minmatar have been making gains recently in Metropolis with operations co-ordinated by Ushra’Khan. Meanwhile a second front is in play in Heimatar as the residents of recently recaptured Lulm dig in to claw back the region from the Amarr.
The Minmatar are suffering from a lack of pilots. However, as enough veterans remain in the militia new members are able to learn the ropes fast. Perhaps the biggest threat to Minmatar recovering their former strength is that in many instances old allies are causing more trouble than the Amarr. With some ex-milita remaining in the warzone as pirate factions many have abandoned the ties of friendship to the Minmatar remnants and are using their intimate knowledge of Militia doctines, FC’s, target callers and known militia alts to pad their own killboards.
There are some signs of hope for the Minmatar. The few pilots that are active are being co-ordinated very effectively with corporation, alliance and coalition ops starting to become a regular occurrence again. Also the Amarr are starting to become distracted by internal politics whilst the Minnies are itching for revenge. Additionally as the value of Amarr LP decreases and the Minmatar make gains – more ‘farmers’ leave the Amarr militia and rejoin the Minmatar, lending their plexing efforts to the TLF.
If the Minmatar counter attack is not to be still-born then a significant amount of fresh blood will be needed to replace the numbers lost to the Amarr offensive or enough of the militia corps/pilots who have abandoned the fight need to feel the call of something better than killboard fixation and piracy, and return to fight for a greater good. The call of the underdog has always been the call of the Minmatar – time will tell if it is enough to destroy the currently sleeping giant that is Amarr militia, Scorch OP and their null-sec ‘big-guns’ CVA.
