On the morning of the 20th December 2014 a Wyvern from W.E.C.C.I, part of the Prelium Ultima alliance, was quietly doing anomalies in the deep null of Impass. Having survived an attempted gank by the Lazerhawk corporation just three days before, he felt secure in the knowledge that the nomadic C5 Pulsar dwellers had probably moved on to new hunting fields.
He was mistaken, for the Lazerhawks had made sure to keep tabs on the Wyvern Pilot, Mersak, and had been making sure a route to his last known position was available incase an opportunity arose to try and destroy him again.
Well that opportunity arrived and the Lazerhawks pounced on the unwary supercapital.
I managed to catch up with Archemorus Abyss, Personnel Director for the Lazerhawks corporation and the person who organised the entire Wyvern kill;
Mail Lite > can you walk me through the event proceeding the engagement from your perspective?
Archemorus Abyss > So roughly three days preceding the kill we had a null connection in our chain that was roughly 4-5 jumps away from where the final kill took place. Myself and a few other people took ceptors and one guy brought a dictor and we roamed the pocket checking ratting systems. Turns out one had a Wyvern. One inty pilot landed on the Wyvern and we got the sabre to warp and bubble. After bubbling a second time our sabre died and the the Wyvern warped out as our support was coming into system. After that I monitored him via various means.
I got a scanner into that region and scanned for wormholes the day of the kill before the Wyvern pilot was logged in. I found a decent wormhole chain that went to high sec. Hid the scanner and waited for the Wyvern pilot to log on and show signs he was ratting.
Roughly 6 hours before DT he logs in but I wanted to confirm he was ratting. Once I had a good idea that he was I got people formed up. We started with roughly seven dictors, five Ishtar’s, and five Scimis. We waited in a wormhole that was 1 jump out from the Wyvern. Once we were ready I gave the call and we got the dictors and a prober into system, probed the Wyvern and punted the dictors. The dictors landed on an empty site so I had them warp back to me and re-punted them onto a new scan result. The Wyvern had gone to a new site. We bubbled up and that was when the fight started.
Mail Lite > Beautiful, the fight itself… how did that go?
Archemorus Abyss > So the moment we got him bubbled we rage pinged for like 1 hour. The fight lasted roughly 90 minutes. First we worked on fighters but realized we can safely bounce and he will just send the fighters on someone else so we started to shoot him. We were slowly breaking him for the first 60 minutes, we had a cyno inhib up but I am pretty sure the system was cyno jammed regardless, we never thought to check beforehand. For some amazing reason we had a null wormholes in our home chain that was roughly 13 jumps away so we had people burn from there as well, to reinforce our fleet, those who responded to the pings.
Roughly 60-70 minutes after we got the Wyvern tackled a cyno was lit on a pos by a tengu. A Nyx and Archon jump in, and over the next 10-15 minutes 2 thanatos carriers jump in along with a Nid. We tried to keep them bubbled but those carriers killed a dictor or 2. In the end all but the Nid and the Nyx end up on grid with the Wyvern, the Nyx stays near the POS forcefield assigning fighters.
We realize we need to drop the hammer so I check dotlan. If we took 1 gate from the Wormhole where are reinforcements were coming from, we were in jump range of the Wyvern system. So we have an Ishtar get to a ping and light the cyno before we even get our dreads ready, just in case they online the jammer again. One gate jump later and one capital jump later our dreads are dismantling their support. The Wyvern proceeds to melt and promptly dies once leaving shield.
We loot what we can, extract the dreads through the wormhole I scanned earlier that day and right before DT the dreads are back in low.
Mail Lite > What were your personal feelings that you managed to set this up for your corp?
Archemorus Abyss > Couple feelings, smug (because who isn’t haha), happy and proud. Our Sabres did a great job and we were able to kill it with just Lazerhawks.
A great result for the Lazerhawk guys who managed to put this well executed operation together.
I tried to get hold of Mersak, or indeed any member of his corporation or alliance but was unable to make contact. I have Eve mailed him so if a response is received I will update this post with his version of events.
