On the 29th November 2014 at around 1740 EvE time, Dead Terrorists, (<IKILU>) a well known low sec alliance managed to catch a member of the Ineluctable. (<NOWAY>) alliance, Savon Vatare jumping in 200km from his POS onto a suicide cyno. While the titan pilot did try to minimise the risk to his ship by waiting till the end of the self destruct cycle on the cyno frigate to jump into Ansen, he was still caught and destroyed. This is easily one of the biggest catches that the Dead Terrorists alliance has had to date.
I managed to get hold of the CEO of Empire Assault Corp and Leader of the Dead Terrorists alliance, Letelio Denmun;
Mail Lite > so as you probably know I write for EN24 and want to ask a few questions about the titan you guys managed to snag in Ansen today.
Letelio Denmun > yeah, I am happy to share the details, we don’t often get such big kills
Mail Lite > What were the events running up to it?
Letelio Denmun > we were actually following an ineluctable titan yesterday that jumped through ansen as well as a number of other close by systems but we were to slow to do anything about it, but they left the pos it had used up in ansen so we figured there was at least a chance that another titan would use the same route
Mail Lite > Makes sense or the same Titan would come back to the POS but either way…
Letelio Denmun > yeah, we thought we had missed our chance though because earlier that day two more did come in but no one from Dead Terrorists was around. We had them (titan pilots) watched listed and the scout was in ansen just to see if they logged back in so we could follow them to their next jump but instead the scout saw a cyno frig land 200km of the tower and start his self destruct cycle, so we figured another titan that we didn’t have watch listed must be on his way in
Mail Lite > so this would of been the 4th Titan?
Letelio Denmun > yeah, one we missed yesterday and two that were logged off in ansen from earlier today, so this was the 4th. We hadn’t bothered moving HICs (Heavy Interdiction Cruisers) into Ansen though because we thought they must be done actually jumping into that system lol, so we’re waiting to see where they would go next. As soon as the cyno started his self destruct cycle we got a handful of capitals into fleet and myself to ghost ride and we had no time to arrange a bridge for subcaps so a lot of people missed out on the kill
Mail Lite > Ok so the cyno is self destructing and your guys have fleeted up with caps (sorry subcaps :P) and then?
Letelio Denmun > it was fairly straightforward from there, their cyno went up 200km away from their pos just before the frig self-destructed our cyno / scout managed to warp to the cyno before it disappeared from overview and just as an avatar loaded grid.
Mail Lite > How was fleet comms when it happened?
Letelio Denmun > chaos tbh, we didn’t think we could catch him there and were almost going to leave it and try to work out where his next jump would be to and some of the fleet were under the impression that we already had cloaked hics in that system so were confused about our hesitation lol
Mail Lite > ahh ok, was the initial point laid by the cyno frig?
Letelio Denmun > no of course he couldn’t point the titan, instead I think it was larf who finally gave the decisive call to jump capitals in at which point I jumped my archon and tried my hand at ghost riding into a phobos for the first time
Mail Lite > how did that go?
Letelio Denmun > Held my breath for the entire thing, seemed like I would never get lock and point before he warped because none of the inbound capitals had bumped the titan and time really slowed down in that moment it took the module to activate but sure enough it worked and I shouted point through the chaos at which point late capitals jumped in
Mail Lite > awesome, how long did it take to burn the titan down?
Letelio Denmun > about three minutes, was very happy to see the armour go down rather quickly. We would have been in trouble if he was full tank fit. I was the only HIC and his two heavy neuts were giving me a very hard time but dual light cap boosters meant I could keep the point running for all but the briefest of moments
Mail Lite > was there ever a sniff of anyone coming to the titans aid, as you said there was at least 3 other titans in the area and did the titan pilot try and doomsday anyone?
Letelio Denmun > they had also been moving a lot of regular capitals through the system but no local was almost all blue asides from him. The dreaded falcons never landed to save him lol. And yes, as he got to structure and must have figured his neuts were probably not going to save him in time so he took out one of the carriers.
Mail Lite > Awesome, I love that doomsdays are now in low-sec.
Letelio Denmun > yeah I have never heard someone so happy to lose a carrier lol. We all had a grudging sense of admiration when he fired the doomsday, most pilots would have probably kept spamming warp / jump and not tried to take someone down with them.
Mail Lite > One last question, do you think there will be any comeback from Ineluctable?
Letelio Denmun > I shouldn’t think so, they seem to have a lot going on in null sec right now which is probably why their capitals have been moving around on mass. I hope this won’t be the last story we give you, although the next one might be us taking the expensive loses!
Like Letelio said in his interview, the cornered and doomed Avatar pilot decided that going down without a fight would be a heinous crime against his ships combat prowess. Choosing the Archon of MsCat and quickly dropping into structure, Savon Vatare launched his attack and, with Phoebe released and doomsdays now allowed in low security space as well as null sec, that attack alpha’d the enemy Archon off the field.
I also managed to get hold of Athen Kharn, one of the three leaders who control the Ineluctable. alliance and in a brief interview he had the following to say;
Mail Lite > Were Ineluctable using Ansen as a staging post/mid-point for ops? DT had been watching the POS for a couple of days and noticed at least 4 Titans moving through.
Athen Kharn > We were using the system as part of a longer chain; I can confirm that Savon was only the second titan to use a POS that was setup there, not the fifth. Our other titans and supers took alternate routes.
Mail Lite > What were the events leading up to the lost titan?
Athen Kharn > Mistakes were made.
Mail Lite > Was Savon on comms and did she ask for assistance or was she resigned to her fate as soon as tackle was landed?
Athen Kharn > The move op was off book and as such there was no support available for several mids.
Mail Lite >Will Ineluctable be taking any action against DT?
Athen Kharn > Expect the DT supers to stay logged off for a while. We’re used to dealing with gallente low sec entities with far more super firepower than DT.
Mail Lite >Savon took down an Archon with her doomsday as she went into structure. DT have given her credit or doing so. Any comments on that?
Athen Kharn > A doomsday was fired and a carrier exploded. The reality was the ship was primarily used for bridging.
Mail Lite >From what I can see Savon used her Titan in combat for the first time and the Archon was the first kill recorded for the pilot on Zkill. I am guessing that Savon is an alt of another member of the alliance. Can you divulge that pilot please?
Athen Kharn > No.
Mail Lite > Is there anything you would like to comment on or add?
Athen Kharn > We’d obviously like to give recognition to Letelio for his titan snag.
Athen wouldn’t divulge the name of the main pilot involved but did allude to the fact that the Ineluctable. alliance had made mistakes and that no support could be offered at the time of the Titan being destroyed. However if does sound as if the Ineluctable. alliance will be seeking some form of retribution for the loss of their titan, which could be costly for the Dead Terrorist alliance.
