Last night saw the Brave Collective wormhole corporation Dropbears Anonymous to a well-planned log off trap by Hard knocks Inc. and E X P L O S I O N. The trap had been in planning for a few days, after a Dropbears fleet had been seen killing POS modules in a wormhole. This wormhole is exceptionally rare as it is one of only ten C6 Magnetars known to exist in the universe. Not only that, but it had apparently not been run in ages and had upwards of 143 Billion Isk worth of unrun cosmic sites and anomalies.
The initial sighting of Dropbears moving in was made by an Explosion pilot, most of these very valuable wormholes are constantly watched for activity. Quickly ,Explosion Contacted NoobMan who is one of the leaders and FC for Hard Knocks. Initially he was not really interested in taking part due to time zone differences. His mind was changed when he was linked screen shots of Dropbears running two capital fleets at the same time.
Just after down time, the feet of T3s from Hard Knocks, E X P L O S I O N, Sleeper Social Club, Marmite Collective and Lazerhawks were all moved into the wormhole and quickly logged off. The fleet was made up of neuting Legions, DPS Proteus, Legions, Tengus and webbing Loki’s with Guardians serving the logistics role.
The waiting game began; initially the trap was meant to be sprung in late EU time zone, but there was no activity from Dropbears, so the fleet was told to wait a few more hours. At around 1 am Eve time Dropbears began to log in and form their PVE capital fleet. Their fleet makeup was 4 Moros, 2 Naglfars, 2 Triage Archons and a bait tank Abbadon, with a web Loki, 2 Proteus and a Legion.
The fleet warped to the first site and in doing so, signed their doom. The logged-off fleet waited for a minute or two before logging in and instantly warping to the site that Dropbears were in. From then on it was a one way fight, as the neut Legions quickly neuted out both Archons and the sole web Loki was quickly killed. Without webs the dreads were unable to track the T3s, even after trying to star burst to improve their transversal tracking odds. The T3 gang killed the capitals one by one until all that was left were smoldering ruins.
The losses added up to 34.93 Billion Isk for Dropbears, comprising the loss of their entire fleet. The T3 fleet didn’t lose a single ship, with their only loss being a mobile depot. This style of engagement takes planning and patience, both of which were executed perfectly by Hard Knocks and Explosion. With the kind of Isk that can be made in these wormholes it is unsure just how much this will hurt Dropbears. Logistically though it will be a mission for them to move in more capitals, exacerbated by the thought that they may not be the biggest fish in that particular wormhole’s pond.
