This past Saturday, on October 4’th, the death of the first Whiptail transpired in the solar system of Ostingele, a faction warfare system in Placid located in the Caldari/Gallente warzone. The frigate, one of twenty five in total given to the Camel Empire for their victory in the twelfth Alliance Tournament, was caught and killed by a relatively small gang of frigates, numbering only four in total and belonging to the low-sec pvp corporation Rage Camp Carebears.
The setup to the kill is an interesting one; Robopleasure, pilot of the Whiptail in question and member of the Camel Empire, was in the Ostingele solar system as per usual. Flying around and collecting kills with his ships. After initially killing a Thrasher with his Whiptail, he swapped out the frigate for a Garmur and later an Ishtar in order to continue pvping before switching back into his Whiptail. On the hunt for more solo pvp, the Whiptail warped to a combat plex at range, landing between sixty and seventy kilometers off of it, and quite abruptly into the waiting arms of a Daredevil frigate.
Daredevils are nasty frigates to contend with, with their fall-off bonus meshing well with blasters and their webification bonus hooking them onto a target and allowing them to cling like a tick. Such a thing happened with the Whiptail when it landed well within scram and web range of the Daredevil in question, with the pilot, JONI ADAMA, quickly establishing webs and point and calling for his friends to assist. The unique bonuses and boosts that the hull has would not save it from the snares of the Daredevil; in a matter of minutes, it was over, killmail worth a hundred billion isk, and a triumphant gang of frigate pilots perhaps wondering “What next?”
Whiptails, like many other tournament ships, are a rare sight to see in EVE and losing one is akin of trashing a classic car; not even the best insurance out there is going to soften the blow. Yet, that has not stopped the pilots of them from putting them to use. Since their arrival in Eve, they have been used quite a bit by their holders to catch and kill ships all across Eve, and with only twenty four left, remain an elusive (and expensive) killmail waiting to happen.
Credit for the kill goes to JONI Adama, Luzy Reha, puupolinsh, and Murgs Nakti.
