Tonight HERO coalition lost a Caldari Research Outpost Platform, most commonly referred to as a ‘station egg’, in E1-4YH, only the fourth recorded loss in EVE Online history, worth a shocking 44 Billion ISK.
A station ‘egg’ is a placeable structure that, if filled with the correct construction items, will then become a fully fledged outpost in the name of the alliance or corporation that owns the space. It takes a long time to anchor, online and construct.
Reports coming in suggest that Unitas. part of the BRAVE Collective and founding members of HERO decided to deploy the outpost platform this evening based on the fact that the surrounding area had been quiet all evening. Once the egg had been deployed a small cap fleet, supported by subcaps were stationed to protect it.
Around 21 minutes into the 1 hour online phase a neutral entered E1-4YH and, after scouting, lit a cyno and brought in an NC. capital fleet. These 13 NC. Archons made short work of the HERO fleet, battle report found here, however left the egg untouched. Whether or not this was accidental due to ‘station eggs’ not being on their overview or if they were there merely as a show of force remains a question.
Unfortunately for HERO, Pandemic Legion had also scouted the egg… and they apparently DO have station eggs on their overviews. At around 56 minutes into the 60 minute online timer PL jumped a 40 man T3 fleet of Legion and Proteus into E1-4YH which promptly chased of the small security detail around the egg, though at this point the HERO pilots were still confident in the egg surviving. However PL didn’t come to fight any subcaps, they came to kill the station egg.
PL jumped their super capital fleet into E1-4YH, including at least 1 Revenant, around 25 other assorted Supers and another 15 or so Dreadnaughts. PL then proceeded, with the help of their T3 fleet, to scramble the HERO egg. It took less than 5 minutes for PL to take out the 100 million structure hitpoints that make up the eggs defences whilst onlining.
Here is a very short video from PL’s side:
Why the Unitas. crew decided to drop the egg so far away from the daily downtime is a mystery. If they had timed it right, so that it was online and had the correct materials stored within it just a few minutes before, then they would of come back to a fully grown Caldari Outpost. Dropping it late evening EU means at least 10 hours that you would have to defend a vulnerable unit in space. Making it a big drain on resources and manpower.
I guess this is why the main Brave Collective corporation is called Brave Newbies, and not Brave Veterans, though you have to love them for trying.
