Eve Down Under 2014
While most of you will have heard about Fanfest in Iceland and even Eve Vegas, the third most populated Eve event is Eve Down Under.
For all the Aussie’s and Kiwi’s out there who are interested in attending :
Q. How much does a ticket cost?
A. Early Bird tickets (until the end of August) cost $135, and the full price ticket (after August) will cost $150. You can purchase your ticket here.
Q. The cost of a full priced ticket has increased from $135 in 2013 to $150 this year – how come?
A. As we grow the event each year, so do the costs. We try to keep the ticket price as affordable as possible however ticket sales only cover 70-80% of the costs, and we rely on the generous support of sponsors to ensure the event is the best player run EVE meet the world. Note that the comparable EVE Vegas ticket price is $200!
And remember you can still save 10% on the full price if you get an early bird ticket before the end of August!
Q. Where will EVE Down Under 2014 be held?
A. The SMC Confrence and Function Centre, 66 Goulburn Street, Sydney. See the Venue page.
Q. I liked the Rydges venue last year, why have you changed location?
A. We have changed of venue for a number of reasons. The Rydges was not available on our preferred dates and this new venue provides the opportunity to grow the event and generate a great auditorium-feel, which we believe will make for a unique EVE Down Under event.
The new venue is only half a city block from the Rydges, so any favourite pubs or hotels you found last year will be within easy reach of the new venue.
Q. I don’t know Sydney, where should I stay?
A. Whilst we do have not direct affiliate hotels this year, we have listed a number of hotels on our Accommodation page that are close to the venue that cater for a variety of budgets. This should be used as guidance only.
There are significant number of hotels and serviced apartments in the general area, so with a little internet searching you should be able to find something suitable.
Irrespective of which hotel you choose, we highly recommend you BOOK EARLY for a good rate as Sydney hotels at that time of year can get expensive for last minute bookings.
Q. Where are the organisers staying?
A. Whilst this is NOT a recommendation or endorsement some of the EVE Down Under organisers will be staying at the Rydges World Square Hotel. This is in part because of our familiarity with that hotel, and it is one of the closest to the SMC.
Q. I’m a Dust 514 player. Will there be anything for me?
A. We certainly hope so! The unveiling of EVE Legion at Fanfest has made the future of Dust 514 unclear and CCP haven’t yet made their plans for Dust or Legion known. We feel it would be irresponsible to promise specific content for Dust 514 players and sell tickets on that basis until we know for certain what we can deliver.
We still very much want to show some love to Dust players at EVE Down Under 2014 so watch this space!
Q. Will I be able to try out EVE Valkyrie at the event?
A. This is something we’re discussing with CCP. There are some very significant technical and logistical challenges to having Valkyrie at EVE Down Under but we’re working on it.
Q. The 1v1 PVP Tournament was a lot of fun last year, will you be running it again this year?
A. Yes, we will be running a similar format tournament to the event last year.
Q. My partner would like to come to the social events Friday and Saturday night, can I buy a separate (cheaper) ticket for them?
A. You partner is welcome to attend both the Friday night reception and Saturday Pub Crawl FREE of charge.
Q. I’m a ganker/carebear/scammer/roleplayer etc. Will I be made to feel unwelcome?
A. We understand that some people may engage in some not-so-wholesome activities while playing EVE or be part of a group whose play style sometimes attracts derision from other players. We’re not here to judge! All we ask that all attendees leave their baggage at the door.
EVE Down Under loves you all, and will not tolerate any harassment or intimidation of our guests!
Q. Are you (the organisers) biased by your in-game affiliations? Do you give preferential treatment to certain groups?
A. It’s true that several of the EVE Down Under organisers hail from the same in-game corporation. Despite that we are all committed to conducting ourselves and this event in an impartial manner. Last year we had players from over 90 different EVE corporations and we welcome anyone with an interest in EVE Online.
Q. Is EVE Down Under financially supported by CCP?
A. No. EVE Down Under is a player run event with support from CCP in the form of their attendance, some in-game items and merchandise. Everything that the organisers receive from CCP is passed directly on to the attendees.
Q. Is there a minimum age to attend EVE Down Under?
A. No, however entry into public bars and the consumption of alcohol will be subject to the normal laws of the land.
Q. I would like to help, is there anything I can do?
A. Firstly, support the event by attending! 🙂 You can also help spread the word about EVE Down Under 2014 on your corp and alliance forums and help get as many people to come along as possible. If you have specific things you would like offer, come talk to us.
Q. I would like to give a talk / presentation, how do I get on the list of speakers?
A. We are still working on the details of the program, however we are keen to provide an interesting and entertaining line up of sessions, so please get in contact with us, preferably via email ( [email protected]), and discuss your idea.
Q. You had in-game sponsors last year, are your planning to do that again this year?
Yes, were are working on a few options and will make announcement shortly. However keep in mind all sponsors contributions will be put into the ISK prize pool for the event and are returned to the attendees in the form of ships and other in-game items.
