Pod Express
While ship kills will make the news from time to time due to how much isk is lost on the ship, you usually won’t hear about how much isk is lost in a Capsule.
This is for several reasons; the first being that apart from bubbles and smartbombs it can be quite difficult to actually kill a pod if the pilot has the awareness to start trying to warp as their ship gets close to dying. Another reason you usually won’t hear about them is that even if you kill a very expensive pod, it might not have been worth anywhere near what the ship value was.
Lets take a look at some Capsule losses that are not lost due to smartbombs, or Nullsec bubbles.
This capsule loss in Jita, was likely because the victim was not prepared for his incoming demise. While the ship he lost was rather expensive for its type, being an Assault Frigate which costs roughly 28million isk to build, it had 550 million isk in modules on board.
Another example of an expensive Capsules being lost is this one, the owner of this capsule was caught and killed by a commonly used “Gank Arty Thrasher,” known for the ability to alpha shuttles and pods and even lightly tanked frigates such as this one.
While usually a Capsuleer’s goal when actively trying to kill other players is to kill the adversaries ship, some people make a career out of almost pure capsule killing.
Perhaps the most notorious of these predators would be none other than D400, a pilot from CODE. This pilot has over 1.5 trillion isk worth of damage done and over 7,000 confirmed kills, while only having received in the area of 13 billion isk in losses.
In closing, with the plethora of things to be aware of in Eve Online, perhaps one of the most important is making sure that if you are able, that you always prepare for the loss of your ship and try to escape with your capsule or else find yourself suddenly in station, with a huge loss to boot.
Both Captain Sircle and z Adolph were not available for comment within 24hours, this area will be updated if they reply.
*edit* After hearing back from Z adolph i would like to point out that the loss was due to real life issues, and was not on auto pilot. Possibly one of the most expensive phone calls in eve =p Z adolph would also like to congratulate Joecuster on being prepared and capitalizing on the opportunity.
Very classy indeed 🙂
We had a technical issue that caused a draft of this to be posted instead of the final copy, this is the final copy. Thank you for understanding.
