Gone in 60 ~~seconds~~ minutes… or why you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy other than in EVE Online…

Saint Lucifer’s Nyx was lost in just over 60 minutes, while not the shortest amount of time to lose a Nyx, it was lost in an interesting set of events.

Saint Lucifer had just bought a new Nyx and had placed it inside his POS. Having other errands to run, he ejects from the Nyx and gets into an industrial. When he warps out of the POS he somehow bumps the Nyx, causing it to slowly but surely drift outside of the protective shield of the POS and into normal space. This goes unnoticed by the owner until he comes back a while later and finds his new Nyx outside of the bubble. Before he could even grasp what had happen, the Nyx cloaks.

A short time goes by and a 3rd party “Zaebos” sends a conversation invite to Saint Lucifier, starting off with, “I understand I am in possession of your Nyx”. Zaebos tries to comfort Saint about the Nyx being stolen. He starts by telling Saint that he did not steal the Nyx and is merely a 3rd party trying to help both sides get what they want (Saint getting his Nyx back and the other party getting isk). Saint seemingly still in shock at what transpired so far, only has respect for the people that stole his Nyx, while Zaebos continued to distance himself with comments like “That’s about as gay as Eve gets”. Zeabos then tells Saint the name of the Nyx-nappers, Ximenez and Sturm, and that they are offering to sell the Nyx back to Saint if he is willing to pay the build cost of the Nyx, otherwise, they will sell it as a combat fit Nyx. Zaebos asks Saint to verify the cargo and fitting of the Nyx to be sure it is indeed the right Nyx. Saint does his best to remember the fitting and contents of his newly gained, then lost, Nyx. Zaebos, still trying to help Saint, lets him know that the total will come to 16.7 billion isk and goes through the plan of action for him procuring his Nyx again. He was to go seven jumps in his pod to Ostingele, warp off to a moon, and is given a POS password.

At this point Zaebos says to Saint, “while this situation sucks for him, that maybe it can turn out as a business relationship. With each client that Saint sends to Zaebos, he will receive 50 million isk per customer”. Saint wearily states that as long as everything goes according to plan that he will look in to doing just that. When Saint arrives inside the POS bubble beside his Nyx he is told to send the money to Zaebos. Once he does and it’s verified, the pilot will eject and Saint will be able to board. He is also told that the isk will be held by the 3rd party to make sure nothing happens, so he can either cloak or cyno out of system. Saint agrees and sends the isk.

This is when the trap is sprung. Zaebos in all capital letters types “WHY WOULD YOU TRUST US???!!!” and that he can’t believe they not only managed to steal the Nyx but that he also just got paid 16.7 billion!

Nicholas Cage would be proud.

This ladies and gentlemen (most of you anyway) would realise why its vital to know the 3rd party and anyone that can back his claim. At the very least make sure you name the 3rd party that you trust for the transaction. If the other party is unwilling then you are better off taking the loss instead of doubling down.
