Not A Bitter VET!: Earning isk from everywhere – Part 2. Wormhole ratting!

February 23, 2016

The following blog is written by  Shinzo Shikimira Shinzo who runs his own blog: Not A bitter VET!

It’s about wormholes again, but this time, with fire and explosions!

So let’s say that you have managed to sell at least one wormhole system. Now you can spend your money on something crazy (that’s what I did, now i’m 2 plex in debt) or.. try another way of making isk! After all, you will probably want to take a break from scanning (and swearing how boring it can get) and constantly camping empty wormholes while waiting for them to be sold, right?

You may have probably tried ratting, at least in highsec space. And it sucks. Doing such a boring job endlessly while you’re getting only a few million isk for each mission site is painful and not worth both effort and time. But that’s just in high security space.Thank Bob for wormholes!

Ratting in wormhole space can be divided by its class. From wormhole c1 to c6, sites will get more difficult and demanding. While c1 sleeper sites can do up to 219 dps on your ship, prepare your butt (or whatever you’re flying) for a whopping 6000 dps in a c6 wormhole. With increasing difficulty, rewards are also getting bigger. Even doing c1 sites will get you at least 10mil each. If done in a proper ship, sleeper anomaly sites can be really quick and easy. A player Rykki has published a very useful spreadsheet for every site here, I highly recommend you bookmark it right away!

Since we don’t have stations in wormhole space, you won’t be able to simply dock up, forget about your safety and log out. And you will want to stay safe, trust me. If you are intending to do anything in a wormhole that would require a bigger ship, I would fully suggest on either investing about 500mil isk to buy your own medium Pos or joining a corporation that already has one.

Now to rat in a wormhole, you need to buy ship. (Oh really?)
For a c1 site, a t1 cruiser can do well. Caracal, Vexor, Maller should do fine. If you have better skills, you can try svipul and confessor as well.
In c2, a t1 battlecruiser is good enough. (Can i bring my drake?)
C3 wormholes are very common for ratting. They can be done in a battlecruiser with good skills or a battleship. (Rattlesnake is a popular choice)
C4 sites are hard to solo with battleships. Two rattlesnakes could do it.
C5 sites are run by fleets or older, rich players who can afford themselves a carrier.
You may use any type of tank as long as it’s capacitor stable and can tank the damage needed. Check dps of each separate wave in the spreadsheet.
Although i don’t recommend using drones just for your own (and your poor drones) sanity. Sleepers are one of the most intelligent rats in Eve, they can start shooting your drones, it will be a pain to keep an eye on them. Also, they are slow.

Since with great isk comes a good risk, expect to get killed. It is easy to get ganked if you’re not careful enough. You should always carry and deploy a mobile depot, have some warp core stabilizers, maybe even probes in your cargo. If you have alts or friends, your could put them cloaked near the wormholes. And don’t forget to mash that d-scan button, especially if you’re doing sleeper relic or data sites. As soon as you see scanner probes, just run. Lastly, you should carefully choose which rats to shoot first since killing the trigger (red in spreadsheet) will cause the next wave to spawn.

Or you will end up being like me:

That should be all! Don’t forget to fly safe, bring probes, depots and a good mood.
