Extra Large Citadel Mass Test on Duality!

February 1, 2016

Citadels will be coming soon to Eve: Online in the Spring. Alliances everywhere have started stocking minerals and capital to be able to reap the benefits of them when they come out. On the 26th of January CCP conducted a mass test to see how the citadels would perform. Massive behemoths, measuring hundreds of kilometres long and wide they dwarf even the largest titan class ships currently available to players. There will be 4 citadel sizes: small, medium, large and extra-large. A first hand preview of the XL citadel can be seen in the following video:

No longer will there be a station interior, instead when “docked” or “moored” in a citadel players will see an external camera focusing on the exterior of the station. This will allow players to see what is happening outside the station and whether or not it will be safe to enter space in their ship. Extra-Large citadels will have multiple undocking ports as can be seen in the video. Super capital ships, currently deemed as space coffins because of their inability to dock, will be able to be dock in the new XL citadel.

Even though the total amount of damage per second that can be applied to the citadels is capped – taking down an XL citadel will be no small task.

Attacking a citadel will go something like this according to a dev blog by CCP Ytterbium:

As CCP works out the kinks and fine-tunes the balance mechanics of citadels, their introduction into Eve’s rich lore has already begun in the current Upwell Citadel Construction Event being run by CCP. But in an unexpected turn of events, The Omega Security Syndicate, destroyed one of Upwell Consortium’s build platforms leading to these harsh consequences:

In the first place, all current and future individual members of ‘The OSS’ are barred from participation in Upwell Consortium research and prototyping efforts, with immediate effect. If any members of those organizations have already contracted components to me they may take this statement as notice that such materials are forfeit. Secondly, while this alliance has been a valuable customer of Intaki Bank services, not least here on this station, we will be reviewing the relationship. No precipitate action will be taken but the Intaki Bank, and other Upwell Consortium members, reserve the right to cancel agreements, without notice or refund, if aggressive acts of the kind we have seen continue. Certainly, in this region it is the Station Owners Council of the Intaki Syndicate that, to quote ISP Security Commander Elteroumie, ‘says what goes and what don’t go’. My advice is that certain parties should bear this in mind.

Citadels will bring much excitement to the Eve community, how is your corporation planning to utilize them? Let us know in the comments below.
