Tactical Destroyers have been a great hit since their introduction. Not only do they dominate small-scale warfare (with Svipul by far the most popular ship), they brought the new exciting mechanic of mode switching. This allows T3D’s to be used in a wide range of interesting strategies and uses. However, as much praise and joy these new hulls bring, there are also a lot of concerns.

Are these ships too powerful? What about assault frigates and their role?  Are they too cheap? The unintended insta-warping after switching from speed mode to other modes? These and many more questions CCP wish to answer and they are asking for the communities help. On the 1th October CCP Fozzie posted this annoucment on the EVE forums:

FozzieHey everyone! We’d like to try out another way to gather specific feedback, and we’re looking for your help!

All four Tactical Destroyers have been out for a little while now and we’re of course planning on making more adjustments to the class over the coming months. To help with this task we intend to put together a focus group on T3Ds that will help provide feedback (especially subjective feedback) on the current state of these ships and on potential future changes.

  • We will use this forum thread to accept applications from players who wish to participate in the focus group
  • The decision on which players are invited to the focus group will be made by CCP
  • This focus group will not receive any secret information, and therefore will not be required to sign any NDAs
  • We plan on making the logs of the focus group chat public for everyone to view. Everyone can see what is being discussed, but only focus group members and CCP devs can actually talk
  • When selecting focus group members, we will be looking for people who can demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and provide reasoned and calm feedback. We also want the members to have significant experience flying the Tactical Destroyers and to have strong knowledge of EVE gameplay, fittings and balance
  • The focus group will take place in a Slack team, so members will need to be able to use Slack

We are hoping that using a focus group of this type will allow us to quickly and easily gather feedback from players who have a strong breadth and depth of experience with the ships. If this group goes well, similar formats might be used for other focus groups on other topics.

Focus group members will not be forced to attend any meetings or to pass any minimum activity thresholds. People in any time zone are welcome.

If you’re interested in participating in this focus group, please post in this thread with an explanation of why you feel that you would make a valuable addition. We’ll provide a list of members and details of how players can observe the chat logs before we start inviting people to the Slack team.

Thanks!

This is a whole new approach from CCP side for communication with player base. Let us a hope those who are sucsessful in their applications will help to bring interesting and objective opinions to help CCP with their never ending quest of balancing the PvP Ecosystem of Eve.

They are sexy. Please send T3 frigs ASAP, too.

    • Random Guy

dont forget t3 BC and BS also
and more t1, logi and ewar destroyers
how about a specialised hull for BS for smartbombs?

      • Foo

I’d be happier with T3 mining ships, TBH. Mining needs luv, and a new hull with the ability to mine moons from orbit would be fucking awesome. And because I’m cool with CCP using my ideas — they need the help.

        • Guess

          Shut up, Meg….

          • Foo

Still creating literary masterpieces with monosyllable words, I see. ::golf clap:: Has CCP dumbed down the game enough for you to find your intellectual comfort zone yet ?

  • They have made assault frigates quite pointless.

    • Foo

And cheap… so stop your bitching and stock up before the nerf bat squishes the T3 dessies.

    • amnaroth

were talking about t3d not f*** frigates. Mass.. velocity wtf are u comparing.

  • Craig Saunders

    Nerf Bat Incoming…………………

  • mook

Can’t be bothered since I fly a real T3, the lil t3d just run away when I land on them.

  • dafdsagtsda

Too cheap and too good, needs nerf.

Don’t get me wrong, I fly t3ds (why would anyone not fly them?), but it doesn’t give me any advantage, because everyone else I fight with these days are also in t3ds.

Either make them much more expensive, so I can still fly them and chew on the poors who can no longer afford them, or nerf them so I have a choice of flying something else without being chewed on by cheap t3ds.

CCP: that will help provide feedback (especially subjective feedback)

Article: help to bring interesting and objective opinions

U Wot M8? Do you even m8? Well do ya

  • Ben Ishikela

Wow. CSM came through to CCP. It was “Sion Kumitomo” that proposed “focus groups” on the Summit. You get my vote next time! (… if this goes well xD ).
This new format of feedback-gathering is a major step towards improving the game also on other topics.

  • Tjojo

    They are too cheap.

They’re about the same price as T2 destroyers, but better in almost all ways, including skill point requirements…

  • Squinty McBlindy

Nerf these fucking things right into the ground.
They have made T1 frigates, T2 frigates, T1 destroyers ad T1 cruisers pretty much obsolete.
    Horrendously OP.

    • Truth

and T3 Cruisers made every subcap above those irrelevant. lol. 2 ships, 1 problem.

  • Amarr Pilot

To start with… Make Amarr ships equal to other races because from my POV Amarr ships are much weaker than others. Same goes for T3 Dezzy.
With these T3 I would slow them down and nerf tank on all of them.
And yes I fly only confessor and I love it.

    • Svipul Energy Drink

      Svipul gives you wings

      • Truth

LOL! OMFG. Funniest thing I’ve read in weeks.

        Well done friend.

  • I am flying all T3D’s

They perform nearly as good as HAC’s:
    My proposition:
    + do not nerf them
    – put them in price range of Heavy Assault Cruisers

    o7

    • Sold

price is not a balancing factor. And they do not perform nearly as good as HACs.

      • Nobody

Price is very much a balancing factor, and they are way better than HACS at everything pvp besides fleet line member. They should cost about half of a t3 cruiser and have about half the sp penalty when you lose one.

If before T3Ds were ever introduced the Svipul was rewarded as a tournament prize it would not have been out of place.

        • Nobody

(And/or nerf the bloody bejeezus out of them)

  • FedUpWithImmatureEVEPlayers

….AND THE REASON CCP IS DOING FOCUS GROUPS NOW IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE $HITERS IN THE FORUMS THAT CAN’T BE HUMAN AND DECENT IN THERE RESPONSES. GOOD JOB EVE COMMUNITY! ::GOLF CLAP::

  • iotaatoi

I just wish that CCP would quit trying to make things less powerful, and maybe make other things more powerful instead.

    • iotaatoi

Still tho, look at what you are facing. If its a T3D vs a Tristan, or T3D vs a VNI…

  • Nerf Plextank

    Hi CCP.

op as shit. rendering AF and most Cruisers useless. Cheers.

Dont nerf them. Just make them more expensive.

Talking Hull starting at 100m since Plextank is everywhere anywhere.

  • Foo

Focus groups, online surveys, reading somebody’s entrails… whatever. These dessies are cool. However, they were never really needed. AF’s could have been buffed a little bit and achieved nearly as much fun and game play, and avoided the howling from the cheap seats about “OP”.

  • Truth

T3D…. Basically, between those and T3 Cruisers… all other subcaps are literally irrelevant. It’s like the old Gallente industrial ships.. Yeah, there were what, 5 options? But once you moved up to Itty V the rest were literally useless.

Congrats CCP. You’ve done it once again. Making 90% of the items ingame completely irrelevant and replaceable by 2.
