Perunga: An Interview

August 10, 2015

Perunga is a highly regarded FC of Snuffed Out, and is also CEO of C.Q.B.

Perunga – CEO of C.Q.B. and Member of the leadership of Snuffed Out

Welcome Perunga, how about you tell us a little about yourself?

Currently I’m CEO of C.Q.B, a pirate corp in lowsec, I used to FC in the Gallente Militia, and am now in Snuffed Out, kicking ass and taking names.I started EVE in 2010, and played consistently for a year, and then took a 2 ½ year break. I was a CEO in the GalMil, running Drake fleets, and then my computer broke, so I left EVE for a while, before coming back in NOV 2013. The EVE bug drew me back. So I went back to my roots and for 2014 was CEO and FC in the GalMil, harassing SnuffBox and other large Low-Sec entities, before taking the warzone. At the end of 2014, the militia became stale, the content became stale, and I wanted more content. The shitlords weren’t satisfying me anymore.

When I heard Snuffed Out were forming, I jumped at the chance. CQB joined in November 2014 and we spent the early part of 2015 prepping, building our standards up, because being an FC in Snuffed Out, you have a name to live up to, and it’s a big step to take. But 2015 has been the year of EVE for me, we have been playing EVE as it’s meant to be played. Why else would you be interviewing me.

So, you say you’re getting the best content out of EVE that you’ve ever had, would you say EVE has improved then?

EVE has definitely improved, back in the day, a couple of triage, and a few dreads used to rule the game. It’s not that way anymore, now you will get roflstomped by supers. The game constantly changes, and there is plenty of content, but you have to adapt to the gameplay. EVE isn’t dying, but you have to have FCs willing to provide content. FC’s who are willing to take risks, with the diplomats in the back pulling strings. Providing content is like putting on a show

Are the bigger alliances afraid to risk their assets then, afraid to risk their content?

Blessed be Phoebe, Phoebe changed EVE for the better. Now you cannot be dropped by the super coalitions from halfway across the galaxy. The low-sec organisations can escalate without the nullsec guys throwing countless supers into the fray. Post Phoebe EVE is awesome, and the fights take time to make happen, you have to set timers, but the fights in Costolle and Barleguet took time to set up, but the low sec corps are mature now. Escalations can happen with the right catalyst.

You guys have been fighting over a lot of moons recently haven’t you??

We have to give our guys a reason, when we set up a fleet of 100 men, the only way to provide these guys with content , and the only way to do this is to use moons, moons aren’t important to me, theyre just a source of content. Its a reason to create fight scenarios. EVE is good for us, and when we rfd costolle moon, we were working towards the battle, moving assets, and coordinating our assets to the right areas. We work to generate content, and when systems hit 500-600 players, as an fc, win or lose, you know you’re job is done, you have provided content, the assets are just space pixels. we had 2 faction battleship fleets just brawling. Nothing gets better than that.

Going back to your early days, what has stuck with you from then?

When I started EVE, I was a rookie, and there were established faction warfare names, Shadows of the Federation, Drunk and Disorderly Alliance, Shadow Wolves etc. When you are a nobody, no one pays attention to you. When you look up to these guys, you should try to open doors. I wanted to be in the big rooms, with the big guys, knowing what was going on on a larger scale. I want to play an integral role in what I do, and I feel my corp plays a big part in Snuffed Out.Dont just show up and be a shitlord, show up and be a hero!

Newbros feel it’s hard to make a difference. How did you make a difference, and make a name for yourself in the in Gallente Militia?

I used to steal all the loot from everyone, and rage at nerds! I took fleets out, I made mistakes, but i learnt from them. I have always had a natural ability to walk into gate camps, i trip into holes and call for help, as the Gallente Militia, we took the warzone, I won’t say I took it, but we did. Gallente Militia hate me now I’m killing them. But we took the warzone. Start with the small scale gangs, frigates, and move your way up, earn peoples trust. Newbros can make a difference, Gallente Militia have turned up with 20 or so noobs in Griffins, and that makes a huge difference.

What inspired you to step up to being a CEO from a FC?

I have my own ideas. I play the game the right way, or at least that’s how I see it. If you want to mine, go mine. But I want to brawl, and drop triage in. That is my style. I started C.Q.B because I wanted people to fly what i told them too. I had ideas for doctrines, but I needed guys to follow me. Realistically, I had to be a CEO to enable that. I started C.Q.B in the GalMil,but there we didn’t have the motivation to push ourselves harder. As a CEO, I motivated myself. In C.Q.B there is no democracy, and it works. My guys will follow me to the end of the universe. They trust me, and the content I provide.I have seen FCs and CEOs crumble, I won’t name names, but I’ve seen it happen. It is hard to be a CEO, but for me, I’m argumentative, so I don’t want to answer to anyone, although, as I have matured. I have realised that in Snuffed Out, you have to be mature. There is a chain of leadership. But I’m near the top of it.If I could describe C.Q.B in one sentence, I’d say ”hacking the mainframe, #wideassholecrew”

So you say you’re enjoying EVE, and getting more content than ever, so where do you see your corp in a years time?

So if you’d asked me this question a year ago, Id be able to answer that question, but I’ve done everything I wanted to do in eve. Kill a revenant – check. Own a Super – Check. Kill a Titan – I have killed 8. All I want to do is take part in an alliance tournament now. I can’t really see us living in nullsec though. I hate bubbles, and we’re happy in low-sec with our pos empire in low-sec. We are the best low-sec corp in EVE, in my personal opinion. We hunt and kill titans, we work for content. It may sound egotistical, but it’s true. If we get beaten, it’s by well matched 150 man fleets. C.Q.B is in the best position, the best alliance, and the best place right now. Life couldn’t be better.Everyone knows are bears stay in highsec, but in nullsec you get huge RB5 style fights, and it’s always been that way, but in 2015, there has been a transition between low and nullsec. Low-sec is where the high skill point players are now, and we have assets to match all but the biggest of nullsec alliances. Nullsec entities should be careful in low sec.

Has Phoebe really made that much of a difference. I know it means large empire assets must be more careful of strategically placing their assets:

We have the best titan and super hunters in the game. Phoebe means they can’t just run, they have to wait, but if Black Legion fully deployed in low-sec, we wouldn’t be able to face them. Null-Sec corps still have power, but in order to make a big fight happen, preparation has to happen days in advance. You can’t just take multiple jumps and interfere in fights. EVE is the way it should be right now.

So you really make Snuffed Out sound brilliant, what would you say if people said you were an egotistical nobody?

People will read this, and will ask who am I. I’m not active in the forums, i make my statements in game, and they will say I am egotistical. In EVE, in order to be the best, you have to have an ego. To be a good FC, and a good leader, you have to have confidence, or no one will follow you.

So would you describe yourself as the good guys or the bad guys?

Well I thought about this the other day. I thought we were the good guys, we always go up against the odds, everyone will blue to shoot us, we had to be the good guys right, but we aren’t, we go around stomping people. We have had 500 man fleets taking on a 150 man fleets. We are who we are, good, or bad, we enjoy ourselves, and when we need to do something, everyone steps up. Everyone goes above and beyond. If you gain the trust of people in Snuffed Out, people will follow you anywhere for content.

Right now the place to be in EVE is where we are, in Black Rise and Placid. You are guaranteed content. The people here want to fight. The GalMil warzone has always been known for content. There are fights of all sizes here, from solo PVPers to huge escalations.

So you recently fought in Costolle over a Shadow Cartel moon, what happened there?

Well everyone knows us and Shadow Cartel have had a rivalry for ages, but it’s generally been a cold war. Snuffed Out have been busy over the summer, with GalMil and Goons, Black Legion and Waffles. That has changed now, it’s become all out war between us now. We are looking into Placid, and we’re getting the fights out of it. We reinforced a Shadow Cartel tower, and we got a good timer. So come the day of the fight, we had our assets in place, and could see our enemies forming up. We had had the node reinforced, so thanks CCP for enabling the fight. We had selected Costolle because both entities could bridge there, making the chances of an escalation higher. We set up our Megathron Navy doctrine, supported by Vindicators, Bhalghorns, Triage, Dreads and a mix of support ships. Our enemies were prepared too though, at one stage, there was something like 42 guardians on their side of the field. We bridged a linking Titan along with our fleet, got our titan off grid, and the brawl started. We were slugging it out for ages. Ships were getting alphad off the field. There were also smartbombing battleships there to destroy the pods, on both sides. For 20 mins we were trading blows, downed pilots were coming back to the field to get involved again. We had 35 Archons on field, but they found our triage in amongst our carriers, and our critical mass broke. Shadow Cartel had the advantage, and our FC called a retreat. If we had stayed, we would have just lost more ships. After good fights in local, we went home. It was a good fight, and FC’s, that’s what we live to supply. When fights are that close, anything could happen. It was an “I was there” moment for us. We are providing constant huge content. The cold war is over, and Snuffed Out are going to war.

So, good guys, or bad guys, it seems that Snuffed Out are getting having fun, and enjoying great content. So, if you’re looking for content, head out to Black Rise or Placid
