LSH downs Ragnarok

April 20, 2015

At 10:53 ET, Russian alliance LowSechnaya Sholupen [-LSH-] downed their second supercapital in two days with the Ragnarok-class titan of Abn-ElGurk-ben-Hamas-ibn Lot-Fudd falling in the system of Soliara.

The target, a member of the corporation German Angels, was noticed moving north through the bottleneck system of Perbhe in Kor-Azor. With his corporation being a member of alliance DARKNESS. [DARK.] until yesterday, the pilot was most likely moving north from the DARKNESS. home region of Delve.

-LSH- member HalkBot noticed two characters in system: a cyno character and a character with no records on public killboards, according to -LSH- pilot 3Better. The lack of killboard history often implies a focused supercapital character.

HalkBot immediately gathered a small crew of -LSH- members, consisting of himself, Rad1st, Sacred Badger, 3Better and others online at the time dedicated to hunting this target. Using jump maps and locator agents, the group predicted his next destination and prepared scanning heavy interdictors in all possible systems and waited.

The cyno pilot eventually arrived at Soliara, one of the predicted systems, after an hour of loitering in Aridia and lit a cynosural field. With the scout in Perbhe calling that the target pilot left the system, heavy interdictors quickly decloaked and warped to a lit cyno, trying to establish a location with combat probes.

According to 3Better, the moment the probes failed to reveal any capitals in space, they knew the pilot had cloaked the capital ship. A -LSH- cynosural field was lit at the same location as the previous cyno, and with capitals appearing on grid, the Ragnarok was quickly decloaked.

A fleet consisting of black ops battleships, supercarriers and dreadnoughts quickly destroyed the titan seven minutes before the daily downtime. Caught twelves minutes before downtime, the titan pilot undoubtedly wanted to use downtime as a safety net in case he was caught.

3Better remarks that “it was a good thing he wasn’t properly tanked”, implying the titan would have easily tanked into downtime if fitted with full tank.

Movements across the map as a result of alliance and coalition level shifts has led to the death of supercapitals across New Eden. With the Phoebe jump changes and impending changes to garage door cynos, supercapital pilots have to exercise more caution than ever moving through hostile space.
