Dev blogs and official news
Damage profiles by Ship group and weapon type
CCP Quant created and published another interesting piece of information: an overview of the weapon systems that have been used in PVP between February 2013 and January 2015 grouped by ship type. Check out this exciting graph.
Data is beautiful!

CSM 9 – The year in reviewFeedback thread
The Council of Stellar Management (CSM) is the annually elected group of players supporting both the player community and CCP development. CCP Leeloo, the CSM coordinator, announced in her blog the upcoming election for the CSM 10 and presents a review of the past year with statements and summaries from various CSM 9 members. Candidacy for CSM 10 opens at January 30th, election for CSM 10 starts at February 25th. Check out this blog for a good!

Proteus has been deployedFeedback thread
The Proteus release has been successfully deployed on January 13th. Proteus brings new visual effects in asteroid belts, a remodeled Exequror, a full rebalance of recon ships and more. Reported issues with NPCs not attacking properly have been resolved in a patch the following day.

Background story and storyline
Circadian Seekers: DED advisory
DED, a division of CONCORD, issued a general warning to capsuleers. The Circadian Seeker ships seem to adept themselves to (perceived) threats. All pilots should use caution when approaching those Seeker ships!

Game mechanics
Stacking modifiers on penalties
Using modules that have a positive effect on modifiers will result in additional modules becoming less and less efficient, an effect known as Stacking Penalty. Read this EVE University article on Stacking Penalty for more information. CCP Terminus explains that the negative effect of modules on modifiers are also subject to the Stacking Penalty mechanic, in that case it results in an overall positive effect.

Details on the new New Player Mining Anomalies
The new ore anomaly to be found in new player starting systems, the New Player Mining Anomaly, will respawn immediately once the ore in that anomaly is all mined away. This way new players will always have a way to learn more about mining. Maybe some day they will become a legend on their own!

Starmap (beta) lacks panning via right-click … for now
Currently you cannot pan around the new Starmap (beta) by right-clicking and dragging your mouse. The feature was removed due to some issues, but CCP Turtlepower confirms that right-click-panning will return once it has been fixed!

Graphics
Ship skins and the Fanfest 2014 vision
At Fanfest 2014 we saw a vision of player created ship skins, but the current implementation of ship skins is not very close to this vision. Please remember that the current ship skins are still a pilot project. CCP Darwin explains that the Fanfest vision has not been forgotten, but that for the near-term we are going with pre-designed ship skins. Stay tuned for more info!

4k textures – not in the immediate future
The request for high resolution (4k and above) textures is heard, but for the moment there are features to be implemented that have a higher priority. Using 4k textures on ships requires quite a bit of work and that work can, at the moment, be spent on things that have a bigger impact.

Hulls, cockpits and pilots … too small for EVE ships
Why don’t we see cockpits and pilots when we look at EVE ships and their hulls? Because the ships in EVE Online are huge! Check this video from EVE Outtakes: Shipsize video!

Physically based rendering and the look of ship hulls
Physically based rendering (PBR) was introduced in EVE just a few weeks ago in Rhea. This new way to render and display ships and ship materials much improved the visuals of EVE, but in some cases imperfections became more obvious as well. As such the artists are going over those imperfections and improve normal maps, materials, factional data or even do full ship redesigns. This is an ongoing process.

Technical info regarding the new asteroid debris
The new debris in asteroid belts are made of sprites in case of the DX9 client; for the DX11 clients the debris consist of geometry as CCP Bunnyvirus explains.

Third party development
CCP FoxFour on the current CREST implementation
CCP FoxFour answers a good amount of questions about the current CREST implementation and dives into details in his interesting post. If you are interesting in CREST and third party development, then don’t miss to read this post!

Valkyrie
CCP Karuck about 4k textures and EVE: Valkyrie
CCP Karuck gives some interesting background information regarding 4k textures and EVE: Valkyrie. At the moment it is not feasible to use 4k textures with EVE: Valkyrie due to general technical limitations.
