Goonswarm Supers Down in Carrou

December 29, 2014

The holiday season is still in full swing, and activities across Eve have dropped precipitously during this time. In the east, the Russian advance over the gradually abandoned swathes of Northern Associates territory has almost ground to halt, while in the south and the west, the fighting has died down between HERO and PL, and N3 against the Stain Russians and the CFC as well.

December 27th, however, things kicked off in a big way. A move operation hosted by a Russian Goonswarm corporation, OEG, was moving gradually from Deklein in the north to an indeterminate location in the south. The move op, consisting of about ten carriers, four Nyx supercarriers, and a Leviathan, were gradually making their way south, waiting out their fatigue carefully before jumping again. Despite precautions taken by the capital group, their decision to pass through Gallente lowsec in Sinq Laison led to them being tracked by individuals from the infamous lowsec group Snuff Box.

Snuff Box and their alliance, Snuffed Out, learned of the location that the supers had originated from, and began to poke another group in the local area, the Russian alliance Only For Fun. Snuff Box narrowed down the possible midpoints for the supers next jump to two different systems, sending cyno scouts to both of them to wait for the supers to make their appearance. Patiently, they stood by and watched for the Goonswarm supers to burn down their fatigue enough to jump to the next midpoint.

Finally, the OEG supers did just that, landing in Carrou. The Snuff Box cyno ship decloaked and dropped the cyno, sending a mass of Hictors through the bridge and catching points on all but one of the Nyxes. Multiple carriers bailed out as Snuff Box and Only For Fun cynoed in their own supers, targeting and burning through the Nyxes first, before finishing off the Leviathan in record time. Snuff Box and Only For Fun sustained almost no losses in the fight and extracted safely. A full battle report can be found here.

The nature of the movement of the OEG supers is strange, considering that Goonswarm (and by extent, much of the CFC), is not currently on deployment or planning to partake in one. OEG as a Russian corporation initially was in Red Alliance during the days of the Red Swarm Federation and the war against Band of Brothers back in 2007 and 2008, and had left Red Alliance to join GoonSwarm, and later Goonswarm Federation when it reformed in 2010. Lately, however, rumors have indicated that OEG is planning on leaving their long time alliance friends in Goonswarm and joining the Gorgon Empire. Gorgon Empire itself has been engaged in pvp activities in Curse for years, and has recently finished up a campaign designed around freeporting much of the Scalding Pass region and opening it up to new people to come and partake in a new pvp haven. The rumors that OEG is planning on joining Gorgon Empire seems to be supported via sights of them joining Gorgon Empire fleets and fighting against HERO during roams and the like, though Gorgon has worked with other Russian groups for roams in the past.
