The problem is that a single pilot is only able to control up to 5 at any time, and that’s currently after roughly 52 days training. Having experience as a defender of a POS siege; its clear to me that 1 POS gunner is not sufficient and with the prerequisite is currently Anchoring 5, a roughly 17 day train skilled gunners are few and far between.
With the POS changes, things will change. Just in from the forums, CCP have announced that the pre-requisite will be changed to Anchoring 4; making an incredibly useful 3 POS gun pilot take just 4 days.
This means that Anchoring 5 will be only required for Mobile Large Warp Disruptor II’s and Outpost Construction. If you have Anchoring 5 and are purely high/lowsec, then you will have some wasted skill points, those of you that like to bash online POS will have your lives made a little harder but defenders of POSes will be rejoicing.
If you are training for POS defence between now and the Summer 2014 expansion, consider not training anchoring 5 and waiting until the new release.
