Break out the cake and wenches! Shadow Cartel celebrates our 5 year anniversary today! Surely to be a fun day I thought I’d head off the rest of the pack by congratulating everyone on a strong five years. Where many entities in Eve have come and gone in much shorter periods SC is seeing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

In fact our ranks of dastardly devious derelicts have swelled across all three time zones with EU, US, and AU boasting strong turnout overall. As a relatively new member (March 2013) I was not around for the growth of the Alliance, yet feel no less committed nor less proud to be part of something unique in Eve.

I’ve been around the block  so to speak, watching entities rise and fall, members leave, the occasional implosion that sadly has seemed to plague many low sec groups from lacking participation to internal squabble and turmoil.

While SC is no stranger to these things, I feel it’s the quality of the people over quantity of much bigger organizations that keeps the alliance in an odd yet fresh place. In my opinion, we have some of the most innovative and gifted pilots from all over New Eden creating new and exciting things. Always it seems we manage to pull off some amazing and exciting feats.

For my own personal experiences I feel rather at home here compared to any other entity I had joined in the past. This is no doubt due to the steadfast leadership of Wowbagger and company. I feel he above all deserves credit even though he’ll never take it, that’s what amazes me about a person like Bagger. He’s as personable as he is critical wanting the absolute best, yet never demanding it trusting in the skill of people he leads to show for themselves.

I find this rather a unique quality. You’ll never openly hear many people admit this, but people stay for Eve because of the relationships it fosters. Sure you get kills, bragging rights, etc… Too often I feel we, as competitive players, get distracted from the intricacies of the game We need to take a step back and look at the people around us, so our competitive natures aren’t a detriment to ourselves.

This probably has to be my only qualm, and it’s a natural one that I’m certain all alliances in Eve deal with. You have so many different people, from so many different cultures across the globe coming together in a universe all our own to explore, enjoy, conquer, and love.

If there is one word I’d use to describe Shadow Cartel with it’s friendship. I consider everyone here friends and that is something I’ve never been able to fully do in any other organization in Eve which is a testament to just how unique this Alliance is.

Here’s to another 5, hell- even 10 years (or until the servers flicker off)! Cheers guys.
