Cranky? Just bored? Can’t resist the temptation of all that stuff just sitting there?
In wormholes, one drawback, is living in a POS (Player Owned Stucture). Security is a constant issue. All your shiny ships are stored in one box, at risk of invaders but also of the corp members around you. Often wormhole corps have common hangers filled with ships and modules due to the increased logistics of getting in supplies, industrial jobs and a focus on teamwork. Even if the hangers are limited to players with roles, once they get those roles, they have access to more than just their personal tab. For example; if they are given a tab role- then they have access to that tab in every POS (if they can get in). If they are given config starbase equipment role, then they have access to EVERYTHING in the wormhole. Essentially, if you can fly it out/ haul it out, you can.
This week, players from Annex Conglomerate, took 40 billion isk worth of ships/modules from The Sp00n and trashed 15 billion of tengus as revenge for how a younger player was treated. One member of The Sp00n was at the lead on the corp theft- handing off ships and mods to the other corp and unanchoring the towers.
The Sp00n is a medium sized industrial wormhole corp. Sixty-one members who live in a C3 Red Giant. Wormholes have the reputation of being wonderful isk farms. 40 billion may seem alot to some, but now think how much the large wormhole alliances would have stored in their POS’s? Trillions comes to mind. Tempted?
First you need to get in, then you need access to a POS. Depending on how the POS is set up you may already have access to other player’s stuff. Enough? Otherwise, it’s a game of building trust, gaining roles and then taking it out when there is no one else on to stop you. Already in a wormhole corp? Trusted? Well, as seen here with Annex Conglomerate, all it takes is for someone to get mad, and suddenly those you once trusted are the thieves.
Wormholers have come up with ways to try and prevent corp theft. For one, recruitment is strict and in virtually all cases requires a full API. Second, if you have been in a corporation with a history of theft or scamming you get an immediate no (sorry to anyone who joined goons!). POS’s are set up with Assembly Arrays (eg Ship Assembly Arrays). These have tabs which can be assigned to individual members. The Personal Hanger Array (PHA) can also be used which enables the best security for modules. At present there is no equivalent to the PHA for ships or industrial processes. Some corporations have adopted a completely different strategy. Every member gets their own POS with their own password. For larger wormhole corporations this is simply impossible as there isn’t enough moons in any system in EVE.
Simply, living in a wormhole comes down to trust. Do you trust the people you live with? Do you trust your directors or those with POS access? Managers, are you maintaining and building good relationships between your players so that trust is maintained? Players, are you being part of the team or are you at risk of your managers taking it all? I know of players stealing from wormhole corporations but I am sure there are wormhole corporations who have stolen from their players. I’d love to hear your stories.
