Meet the North: Panfam

February 27, 2018

Introduction

As you may have seen a couple of days ago, EN24 is running a short series breaking down the North. The first installment, covering GOTG, is out already. Now, we turn to PanFam. PanFam is made up of Pandemic Legion and Pandemic Horde. Northern Coalition. is also closely associated with it, and can be considered part of the coalition. However, NCdot is distinct enough to deserve its own, separate article.

Pandemic Legion and Pandemic Horde live in scattered areas across the North. You can find them on the sov-map here.

Pandemic Legion [-10.0]

Pandemic Legion is a storied alliance. It gained fame in the latter stages of the Great War. Then, it led disparate northern alliances against Band of Brothers, and was decisive in the Siege of Delve. At that stage, they were a mercenary force.

However, after that vast conflagration, they began to move away from their mercenary roots. They remained nomadic for years, flitting from warzone to warzone – often fighting Goonswarm. Their intent was (and remains) to focus on PvP in all forms, rather than build a large empire. Though they did sometimes hold sovereignty, such as in Fountain in 2008-2009, this served as a means to an end. After WWB, they settled in the north. However, it is their objective to remain as nomadic as possible, though game mechanics can make this difficult.

At the moment, they, along with their Northern Coalition. allies, are busy invading Providence. The action has been going well. Despite fierce resistance from Provibloc and Legacy, they are on the brink of victory with 5 constellations under control and alliances leaving Providence.

They have ~3000 members. They do not have a conventional leadership structure and are instead run by a meritocratic junta of FCs. Different senior FCs control different deployments and operations depending on their interests. Prominent in this group are Elise Randolph and Grath Telkin. They live in parts of Vale of the Silent and Tenal, though often deploy elsewhere.

Pandemic Horde [REKTD]

Pandemic Horde was created by Pandemic Legion to engage new players. This is because entrance into Pandemic Legion is extremely exclusive. It requires multiple capital pilot characters and a vouch from a serving member. When the meta began to shift towards the advantage of numbers, rather than pilot skill, this became a problem.

Therefore, in 2015, Pandemic Horde was brought into being. They are unique among major power-players in that they have no security measures for entrance. This means that it has a large number of spies – but also that it is massively inclusive to new players. However, as important internal organisations are API checked, this is not particularly problematic.

Whilst it initially began as an off-shoot of Pandemic Legion, it has grown into its own force. It can now field Machariel fleets and is developing a potent capital fleet. Along with its northern allies, it faced down the combined might of the Imperium at 9-4 last month. It is currently in the process of moving to Geminate, from Fade, in search of more space to house its growing population.

It has ~13000 members and is led by Gobbins.

Conclusion

I hope this communicates some of the character of PanFam – it is, in many ways, a coalition of equals. Next time, in our last article for this series, we look at the remaining pillars of the North: Northern Coalition. and Mercenary Coalition.
