CalMil Propaganda Contest Promises ~2bn in Prizes

November 13, 2017

Nothing sets the heart afire like the right propaganda, and the good stuff is hard to find. The Caldari Militia Coalition, comprising about a quarter of New Eden’s factional warfare, has launched a propaganda contest labeled ‘WIN A CARRIER WITH YOUR ART!’ Normally, digital artists may need to rely on connections or affiliations to translate their work into ISK, but this contest is open to all.

PRIZES: First prize is your choice of a Chimera carrier or a Minokawa Force Auxiliary, market value around one billion ISK. Second place gets a Navy Issue battleship, either Scorpion or Raven, worth roughly half a billion. Third place is a quarter-billion-ISK Drake Navy Issue, and fourth is a choice between two navy cruisers: Caracal or Osprey. For plenty of capsuleers, this is a pretty hefty pot and good ISK for effort.

RULES: The Caldari Militia know exactly what they want, and they’re not shy about the details. The contest has fourteen specific rules, and most of them have a bearing on content. By and large, though, they boil down to ‘make Caldari look good, make Gallente look bad, and don’t be crap.’ If you can bash libertine democratic types and glorify corporate efficiency without scraping the bottom of the barrel, you’re well on your way. For the complete rules, see the contest advertisement.

JUDGING: The contest judges are three Directors of the Caldari Militia Coalition. CPTRINGO, CEO of The Mjolnir Bloc, represents The Bloc alliance. Diana Kim is another factional warfare mainstay from the State ProtectorateTheLastSparton hails from the Caldari Colonial Defense Ministry within the Templis CALSF alliance. Judging criteria are ‘quality and message.’

RIGHTS: “By posting your submission, you agree that Caldari Militia Coalition pilots might use it as a propaganda by posting it in local channel disregarding if you will win it or not.” There’s no nonsense in here about exclusive use or whatever; you’re not signing your work over to CalMil by entering the contest.

SOURCING: “All submissions must be original, made by authors themselves. Using in-game screenshots and game generated content is allowed.” On principle, and because it’s a gray area that might get you disqualified, I wouldn’t recommend ripping off a dedicated screenshot artist like Razorien.

DEADLINE: December 21st, 2017. You have a month and a half to build CalMil the perfect Christmas present, and it looks like they might have one for you too.
