Rare ‘Gold’ Magnate destroyed

June 19, 2017

Not too long ago four capsuleers received high praise and honor for their part as victors in the Imperial Succession Trials that ultimately saw the enthronement and crowning of the Empress of Amarr, Her Majesty Catiz Tash-Murkon.

Dam-Torsad, Amarr Prime – The new Empress of Amarr will be Her Majesty Catiz Tash-Murkon, following her Champion Kelon Darklight’s triumph in the Finals of the Imperial Succession Trials today. Long, loud and clear was the pealing of bells in celebration, as crowds gathered in the Imperial City of Dam-Torsad witnessed the victory in ritual combat of the Tash-Murkon capsuleer Champion Lord Kelon Darklight and his retainers, Lucian IV, Maxine Antilles and Wasa Qc.

While the coronation of the new Empress will be of greatest importance for the Amarr Empire and New Eden in general, tonight belongs to Lord Kelon Darklight and his team of retainers. Amidst the celebrations marking the dawning of a new age for the Amarr Empire, the Imperial Champion and his comrades are the toast of Dam-Torsad. As Imperial Champion, Lord Kelon Darklight will be inducted into the Cross of the Sacred Throne Order by the new Empress and the entire team will receive Gold Magnate class frigates.

The Empress awarded the four capsuleers one of the rarest ships in New Eden, the Gold Magnate, which has been valued by some collectors at 1.6 trillion ISK. Prior to these four being handed out the only other one to ever have existed in New Eden was given to Ecliptical in the Imperial Succession Trials of YC105, and after being sold to Tyrrax Thorrk was destroyed in combat shortly there after. For over a decade the possibility of the Amaar Royal Family awarding more of these ships occupied the minds of many a capsuleer and collector. After the death of Empress Jamyl at the hands of the drifters set off speculation amongst collectors, that hope reached a fevered pitch. The victorious Champion and his retainers soon found themselves in possession of New Edens rarest and most sought after ship. In most cases these ultra-rare ships, if ever moved, are done so in secret when sold to a collector who then keeps them safely docked in a station as part of a static collection or in rarer cases lost in combat when the owning pilot bravely flies them in to battle. Either way, they rarely see the outside of a station hangar and owners will deny even possessing them as ships of these types make the owners both the most sought by collectors and stalked by hunters.

Yesterday, however, it appears that one of the retainers, Maxine Antilles, who according to friends had grown tired of life as a capsuleer and decided to un-dock his rare prize and destroy it by his own hands in the low-security system of Vlillirier. While this particular Gold Magnate had been used by Maxine in combat it was eventually felled by smart-bombs as a sacrifice and final goodbye to capsuleer life. While many of us could not imagine the combat loss of a ship a fraction of the ‘Gold Magnates’ value, it is certainly one way for a capsuleer to leave his or her mark.
