From the Blotter: A Querious Grudge

April 4, 2016

From time to time, my writing at EN24 blurs with my employment as a detective and my recent plan to investigate the state of Querious started my detective juices flowing. In the course of working on the article, I reached out to all active querious residents – members of the Querious Fight Club, Rote Kapelle, Black Core Alliance, SpaceMonkey’s Alliance, I N F A M O U S, and I N G L O R I O U S. While several members of the fight club brushed the requests aside and SMA refused to speak with EN24, several groups did respond. Instead of an update on the current state of Querious, I ended up with an explanation of why so much of Querious had been reinforced and why this forum post was made.

Genuinely curious and unfamiliar with the torrid history that exists between Black Core Alliance and Misfits United, I traded my typewriter and green eyeshades for a magnifying glass and deerstalker hat. The following is a detailed account of my investigation into the situation.

It turns out that Black Core Alliance [BCA], now a dead alliance, owes its demise to a fight that began in 2013; to a betrayal that haunted them for 3 years and, ultimately, resulted in their death. Back then, Misfits United [M-S-F] (currently members of the I N F A M O US partner program in the I N G L O R I O U S alliance) were members of BCA. They paid 20 Billion ISK to purchase the station in B1UE-J in The Kalevala Expanse only to be told a few days later that the station would be given to Northern Coalition. Since they had just paid BCA for the station, M-S-F was clearly upset and negotiations began, resulting in an agreement that would see BCA repay 50% of the station cost (10 Billion ISK) to M-S-F. Hours after this deal was struck, BCA kicked M-S-F from alliance and sieged the station, claiming it for Black Core Federation [BC-F], a member of BCA. As this happened, several BCA member corps walked away, resulting in the loss of over 1600 members.

Working with several mercenary groups, M-S-F wreaked havoc on BCA, seeking revenge for the betrayal and, while M-S-F and others managed to steal the original station cost several times over, Mr De (a member of M-S-F leadership) was still looking for repayment for the station. Fast forward to 2016, and BCA was renting space in Querious and flying with members of Affirmative. [YES]. (Note: This was later confirmed to be a planned merger that was canceled). At this point, M-S-F, members of the GLORY partner program, received permission to target BCA, something they’d been chomping at the bit to do. While GLORY expected good fights and some sov grinding, they expressed disbelief that BCA basically died in days. The fights didn’t happen because Mr De’s original goal, the death of BCA, seemed to be coming true.

Throughout this time, a couple small member corps from BCA transitioned into YES while their leaders, Townsaver80, who has thus far been unavailable to comment, was offered a ransom deal. Mr De made a simple request, repay the original station cost and all will be forgiven. Townsaver80 refused, so Greygal, exec of Affirmative., worked conversations behind the scenes to see the conflict come to an end. Ultimately, a conversation took place involving a member of BCA High Command, Greygal, Mr De, and a member of GLORY leadership. The deal was simple. All BCA sov and structures would be transferred to GLORY and M-S-F would receive a payment of 10 Billion ISK in “war reparations”. After all sides had agreed, Townsaver80 stepped in and torpedoed the deal, stating, as one source put it, “in his best Christian Bale Batman voice”, “I AM BLACK CORE.” Many sources said over the course of this investigation that industrialists are among the sneakiest, most underhanded, and devious players in New Eden and this definitely appears to be the case here.

So as we saw in the reddit post from Greygal, the merger was cancelled, and according to emails passed along by a source (and confirmed by the reddit post), real life threats were made. We also saw that the merger between BCA and Affirmative. was frowned upon by members of BCA who paid TEST to attempt to disrupt the process. In the end, YES is holding space in Querious and active in the fight club, GLORY has taken BCAs former space, and M-S-F saw the death of BCA that they’d always hoped for.

I may just be a humble space detective, but the human aspects of this story appealed to me. It demonstrates that in New Eden, in this game we all call EVE Online, you are nothing more than your word and trust is a key factor. Many groups have demonstrated that BCA leadership could not be trusted and, in the end, they suffered the most, but along the way there were other victims. Remember, this is a game and while it’s fun to be a blood thirsty pirate and stab others in the back, it’s important to remember the people involved and the trust they place in you. Real life threats, lying to those you’ve played with for years, and betraying players that depend on you are not appropriate actions in this game. Instead of fly safe or fly dangerous, I’ll leave you with this… Fly honestly, Be trustworthy.
