Trolling the Trollceptor

April 19, 2015

TL;DR Grab some ewar frigs and troll the trollceptor

My name is Aon Flux. I’m a recruiter and member of leadership in Volition Cult in Providence and I have been hearing and seeing a lot of comments about the impending doom of EVE and SOV. This contribution is not a condemnation of the naysayers in Providence or any other part of New Eden, but my own perspective that things are not going to be that bad. We will be able to defend our sovereignty by using existing ship bonuses and fleet mechanics. And I am not just talking about Providence, but all sovereignty in New Eden.

I will here give some examples of why I don’t think the four trollceptors of the EVE apocalypse are here.

The trollceptor was a very early bringer of doom and this has to some degree been dealt with by the proposed Entosis Link mechanics by CCP Fozzie. Entosis Link stats, but not the modules are available on Singularity and you can read about it here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=416259

The trollceptor was born so quickly that it was clear that the first iteration of Fozzie SOV mechanics was broken. We now have the second iteration and I would like to focus on three module stats, which I think will determine the success in countering trollceptors and the Entosis Link in general. The first stat is the fitting requirement, the second is the cycle time of the Entosis Link and the third is the range of the T1 and T2 Entosis Link. I believe that if you have the correct ships prepared, you can very effectively defend your sovereignty against trollceptors and small gang harassment.

The T1 Entosis Link has a proposed fitting requirement of 10 powergrid, 1 CPU and a range of 25 km. It has a cycle time of 5 minutes. Any interceptor can fit a T1 Entosis Link and orbit a capture point at about 20 km @ 5k/sec. The T2 variant has a proposed fitting requirement of 100 powergrid and 10 CPU. This has removed it from being fitted to a frigate with a viable fit. An interceptor with a T1 Entosis Link will be within range of dedicated webifiers such as Hyena, Rapier and Huginn ships. Add a Mordus Legion frigate or cruiser and 2-3 players should be able to effectively neutralize a small group of trollceptors.

The ECM capabilities of the Griffin and the Kitsune can be used to remove the target lock of the trollceptor. The T1 Entosis Link has a proposed cycle time of 5 minutes, where the first cycle is a warm-up cycle. ECM the interceptor every 10 minutes, and he has to start over hacking the capture point. Lolz for everyone in local and troll the trollceptor.

For cruisers, BC or BS with T2 entosis link there are too many fun possibilities for countering the hacking. The T2 variant has a range of 250km and a cycle time of 2 minutes. A lot of ships in EVE are slow, if they are fitted to lock targets at more than 100 km. Put a well-skilled Scorpion pilot on the capture point and he can manage an ECM bubble range of about 120Km radius around the capture point. Maybe use very fast Dramiel or Daredevil to catch range-fitted BCs and warp your fleet to fleet member. Easy kills and killmails in local.

There are many more possibilities with existing ship bonuses and game mechanics to counter trollceptors. My personal favourite with a lot of frigates and cruisers roaming around will be cloaked smartbombing battleships. I hope all EVE players will engage in the exciting time that is ahead.
