The Small Things: First Fountain War Engagements, New Chimera Model and More

March 17, 2015

Welcome to the eighth article in an ongoing series on EN24 where we will be looking at the ‘small things’ that might not make a full EN24 article but are either funny or interesting enough to share anyway!

We here at EN24 will be running one of these articles once a week after scouring the intel channels and other intel outlets for information to share with you, our readers.

The first engagements of the Fountain war.

Over the last couple of days the Northern Coalition. [NC.] and their allies in Black Legion. [BL.] have began to hit targets in the Fountain region as part of an invasion that could mark the last big SOV war of the Dominion era.

The ‘Dotbro’ allies have engaged the local CFC forces on a couple of occasions now, the first was in PNQY-Y where a large Tengu fleet from NC. and a secondary force from BL. in Ishtars both with tackle and logistical wings, clashed with the local CFC forces who were also in Ishtars with logistical support.

This first major skirmish went to the CFC forces, who managed to clear a significant amount of the ‘Dotbro’ logistics and causing them to disengage and retreat. ‘Dotbro’ lost 50 ships totaling nearly 12 billion ISK, while the CFC lost just 37 ships for a total of around 4.2 billion ISK.

The full battle report can be found here.

The second skirmish was in the system of BYXF-Q and included the NC. fleet in a slightly unorthodox fleet composition of Cruise missile Ravens and BL. bringing their Ishtar fleet again. The NC. counted on the local CFC also bringing their Ishtar fleet, knowing that their Ravens would constitute a hard counter to them and were rewarded with exactly that when Fatal Ascension, Get of my Lawn and Forged of Fire turned up in their Ishtar gang.

My thanks to Natuli of Nex Exercitus for a great video of the fight from NC. perspective;

The fight went to the ‘Dotbro’ coalition with the CFC losing around 9 billion ISK in 67 ships. The ‘Dotbro’ coalition on the other hand lost just 870 million ISK in the fight with just 11 ships being destroyed. The full battle report can be found here.

Just this morning the N3 Coalition and Black Legion. mobilized to attack the I-HUB in LBGI-2.

The N3/BL. forces, which included members from DARKNESS. and The Kadeshi formed up in yet another strange composition, that of Tempest Fleet Issues and Machariels supported by a number of logistical cruisers, T3’s and tackle. The CFC however formed up in the soon-to-be-nerf-batted Ishtars along with their own logistical and tackle support.

Nulli Secunda of N3 Coalition also arrived on the field in support of their friends, and it marks the first involvement of the Nulli Secunda alliance in this war.

CFC formed up in defense but were pushed back by the superior numbers of the N3/BL. forces and had to retreat, which left the invaders to reinforce the I-HUB and secure the strategic objective.

In all the CFC forces lost 44 ships for a total of just over 5 billion ISK and the combined N3/BL. forces lost 43 ships but for a larger ISK loss of around 7.6 billion ISK, meaning that while the N3/BL. forces secured their objective in this fight, they lost the ISK war to the CFC. The full battle report can be found here.

These skirmishes are just the warm up to what a lot of people hope will be a fun and long lasting war. The main CFC group have declared their intention to deploy to the Fountain region and reinforce the defense of the area. NC. and BL. have some of their first offensive timers coming out this evening including a station timer.

HERO alliance Spaceship Samurai to merge with Test Alliance Please Ignore.

It seems that Spaceship Samurai [HONOR] will be merging with their HERO coalition co-members Test Alliance Please Ignore [TEST]. according to sources it seems that the [HONOR] CEO Securitas Protector has been playing less and less of Eve Online due to dedicating himself to his medical training.

[HONOR] had around 9 corporations, but as of this morning Concordiat, who was the biggest corporation within [HONOR], left the alliance and will apparently be joining TEST as soon as they can.

TEST

Other corporations like The New Era, who left [HONOR] this morning and Shinigami Miners, who are still a part of the alliance, will now need to decide what their future will hold.

New Chimera model on the way?

During the week the below image of a new model for the Chimera sparked both anger and interest on the Eve online reddit.

Chimera new

This image cause anger due to the fact that the current Chimera model is widely accepted as on of the nicer looking ships in Eve Online and a lot of people expressed the opinion that other ships would benefit from a redesign more.

However some people were really interested in this picture as it showed a number of design aspects that could be very interesting and could make your ship much more of an ‘experience’ to fly. Thing like maintenance drones buzzing around your ship doing small tasks, engines moving into different alignments when maneuvering and exaust fumes and coolant being jettisoned.

As far as we can see from the text in the picture the following is noted by the designer, however the last one has three word missing from the beginning of the sentence;

“Rotating radar dish, rotating continuously”

“Maneuvering thrusters, fire up once in awhile when the ship is braking out out of warp”

“Smaller heat exhausts, produces little clouds of coolant medium when the shield is taking damage or after warp”

“Point defense turrets, rotate once in awhile”

“Landing pads for maintenance drones/shuttles, could realign once in awhile”

“(…) tiny maintenance drones scanning around when you zoom up close, interacting with the landing pads”

VIDEO: How to escape tackle interceptors and catch kiters.

A nice short video from Endo Saissore showing the use of a great tactic to get away from those pesky orbiting interceptors. A very useful skill to get to grips with for the solo or small gang pilot.

Endo Saissore also released a second video that instructs the solo/small gang pilot on how to catch a ship that is using the kiting strategy in this video;

Some great basic tactics there and just shows that manual flying is definitely advantageous in certain situations.

Well that’s it for this weeks issue of ‘The Small Things’ and I hope you enjoyed it and we shall see you next week for another edition!
