New T3 Tactical Destroyer: Minmatar Svipul, now with textures!

January 27, 2015

The information for the second of four Tech 3 tactical destroyers was released a few weeks ago and will ship with the next patch Tiamat on the 17th February 2015. The release announcement included pictures of the Minmatar Svipul in a non textured state.

Recently the new tactical destroyer was released for testing on the SiSi server and new pictures of the ship shows it in it’s now textured form. In my opinion it looks very similar to the Venture mining frigate while in speed mode, like shown beneath.

The name of the ship is very fitting, with Svipul meaning ‘Changeable’ or ‘Battle’ in the old Norse language and also the name of Valkyrie in Northern mythology. The fact that the ship itself can change modes while in battle makes the name a great choice.

If you haven’t seen the stats for the new Minmatar Tactical destroyer then here they are:

How will the Svipul be used in the current meta? Well I can see it fulfilling a similar role as the Confessor is at the moment, as an anti tackle small fleet ship. The reason for this is the changes which are also coming with Tiamat

Small Artillery:

In Tiamat we are making some adjustments to small artillery weapons to help keep them in line with other similar weapon systems. We will be increasing damage multipliers slightly while reducing tracking speed.

All small artillery will be receiving:
+10% damage multiplier
-3% tracking speed

With the Svipul having a 33.3% bonus to tracking on it’s small projectiles, 10% optimal range and damage, this will make it a very formidable sniper ship while a lot of other ships which can be used as snipers, like the Wolf or Republic Fleet Firetail will suffer from the tracking speed changes. This ship will easily be able to outrange other similar ships in the Minmatar stable and it will be interesting to see if people agree with me or not once the ship comes to Tranquility.
