“The o7 Show” Wrap Up

January 16, 2015

The 3rd episode of the hour long “o7 Show” aired today, with the usual segments: fitting demo, dev announcements and check-in with community events. The o7 Show is CCP’s attempt to give back to the community and keeping the players involved.

The show airs periodically, along the same time frame as expansions: Two shows per expansion, roughly.

The o7 Show broadcast, 15 January 20:00 UTC

Here’s what was covered, with some analysis:

Does it Fit

CCP Rise demonstrates how to fit a ship.

Exequror Navy Edition (in celebration of it’s new look)

Rise fitted up the cruiser with a structure (hull) tank. “Real men hull tank!” is a motto that refers to how risky this kind of tank is, which usually shows up as a joke. Not this time. Rise also added two webs, since the low slot tank didn’t impact the mid slots. Double webs are for slowing down frigates. The fit does 800 dps and should be used for cruisers or smaller, although it can fight largers, battlecruisers as well.

To test it out CCP Rise announced the fit would be flown in the deadly system Amamake (Heimatar Region), at the end of the show

CCP VIDEO: Virtual World Operations

CCP Applejack (Senior Virtual World Systems Administrator) Reviewed server room improvements comparing 2004 to 2015. Announced new improvements on the way. CCP has always respected their player’s intelligence when it comes to technology. They often share very technical details about the game and the infrastructure it lives on. Interestingly, the server(s) will get a new CPU.

Also the player requests for “reinforcing the node” when they know there will be a big fight on in a certain area is automated, based on emailed requests. It was a manual system before. So if you ask for the node to be reinforces, it won’t be missed, but can this be abused? They have probably thought of that.

Dev Interviews – Ship Painting Engine

CCP Mimic interviews Team Size Matters members, CCP Foxfor (technical game designer) and CCP Cognac (senior software designer)

Foxfour is best known by players for his work with the 3rd party community (the ones that program and build tools and websites to help EVE players). He announced that after 3 years of testing they have opted to change the ship painting system called: Super kerr induced nano-coating.

The old system made it so the skin was painted onto the ship and it was destroyed along with the ship. The new system will now tie the ship skin to the player, through a purchased license. The paint will be applied the ship as long the player is piloting it. So the license stays with the player, not the ship. So you can loose as many ships as you like and still have the paint job.

These changes are probably due to player feedback and poor sales of skins on the existing system. No word on what will become of current painted ships. Will they be rare trade commodities, or be erased and reimbursed?

Community News

CCP Guard introduces video interview with Nashh Kadavr (EVEN_NT) and Bei Artjay who was discussing the meetup for EVE Nottingham. Nash is the organizer and more information can be found at EVE_NT and in the forums [link thread].

Nash was recently involved with Titan Smash, sponsored by IWANTISK. Due to controversy of how the event unfolded IWANTISK dropped sponsorship of EVE Nottingham. Nash took the prize ISK, 100 billion ISK, that he was entrusted with for the event and handed it over to Chribba, (best and most trusted EVE broker) to buy PLEX for the next player relief effort (for real world disasters). In other words, he took the money and handed it over to charity. Both entities have gone their own way. [see article].

More on this controversy can be heard in discussion and interviews with both parties on “The GRN show” from EVE-Radio [link here]. See episodes:

The GRN Show – 04/01/15 – Drama Lama Ding Dong

The BC Show – 1/7/15 – BOOM Dirk Shot!!!

Bei Artjay, leads the small corporation-RUUM that is the darling of Solar Fleet or taking the R3PO-Z station away from XXDEATHXX. [See article and additional article]. He will be managing the pvp tournament portion of the event.

Dev Interviews – Corporation Mechanics

CCP Guard interviews Team Five-0 members, CCP Punkturis (software engineer) and CCP Sharq (senior ui designer)

Punkturis explains corporation permissions mechanics are complex. CCP asked for feedback and the players focused on “roles management.” Some fixes will be released in February’s expansion, including these:

  1. Custom messages on corp rejections – so you could tell them why they were rejected, or taunt them.
  2. Raised limit on mailing list – from 300 to, now, 5000
  3. Now Corp Details editable – tax description
  4. Easier to unrent offices, more obvious
  5. Updated the option to invite someone into corporation

Big News: In February, corp “friendly fire” will be allowed to be turned off by your corporation CEO. This is a controversial move as it allows High-sec CEO’s to let Concord intervene when corp mates shoot each other. Awoxers are affected. (Awoxers are players that kill their corpmates, named after the player famous for doing so, Awox.)CCP mentioned this will help protect new players from getting griefed by their own corp.

Sharq talked about the overhaul of corporate mechanics. They won’t appear until March because it the first overhaul since the beginning of the game, and CCP is going take their time to do it right. The idea is to make corp permissions scale so they can be simple for small corps, but able to grow for very large corporations. The UI will simplify as well.

There was no mention of sov changes which are due to hit early this year.
