Early EU time on the 13th October 2014 Major JSilva, formerly of the Council of Stellar Management (CSM) and Pandemic Legion Pilot posted his character for sale on the EvE Online Forums with the starting bid of just 1 ISK.
This sale followed a shock resignation from the CSM just days before. The reason for the resignation and sale is shrouded in mystery and rumour, though it is said to be something to do with a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) although no one I spoke to could confirm this fact.
After the sale was announced a number of people started putting in bids, some of which hit 30+ Billion ISK for the 80 million SP character. However, the one that stood out was by Stay Frosty‘s’ head evil pirate mastermind Rixx Javix of EVEOGANDA fame.
One Billion ISK for this character was a laughable offer considering 20 billion had already been laid on the table at that time. But the tone of his post struck a chord.
The EvE community once again showed that some things aren’t just about ISK and aren’t just about stupid spaceships in stupid online games… but about the real people in EvE and making sure that certain people have a legacy when they have done right by the player base for so long.
The EvE community, or at least a part of it decided that they would not want the Major JSilva name to become lost in the annals of times, to become a miner, or a carebear or a F1 monkey in a faceless blob.
Instead of having that happen they started to donate ISK to Rixx for the purchase of the character. Pledges of ISK came in fast and over the next twenty-four hours another 24 Billion ISK was raised.
Even though offers had reached 30+ Billion ISK for the character Major JSilva agreed with the EvE Community who had helped fund a serious bid from Rixx and agreed to sell the character to him for the 25 billion therefore cementing the character as a bloodthirsty pirate for as long as it shall be a part of EvE Online.
So with the help of the EvE community Rixx managed to save a well known and respected pilot and make sure that his name continues to grace the killboards of EvE Online. Rixx Javix also promised to lose a nice shiny ship every 2 months or so, which could be fun for everyone else!
While the future of the pilot behind the Major JSilva character is currently unknown, one thing is for sure; He has made a name for himself in EvE Online.
