CCP is finally fixing the most unbalanced space: WH. The rage is huge, which means CCP managed to hit the heart of the bad guys who made WH space practically deserted. The API no longer provides kill data for wormhole space, but we can look at the 2013 data: Nullsec seen 25x more NPC kills and 6x more ship kills than WH space. The problem alone isn’t the lower population, despite Null has equal amount of systems as WH, but the very skewed NPC:ship ratio. WH PvE is practically dead, which lead to low population, which lead to less PvP too.

Why? Because C4+ WH space is as far from the original design as it could be (C1-3 is OK). It was meant to be a great unknown, where unexpected things happen, due to the random connections. This randomness was destroyed by the “ragerolling” process. In this a ganker group repeatedly overloads their static wormhole with capital ships, creating a new one, until they got which they wanted. This turned “extreme randomness” into “certainty”. If you were ratting with capitals and there was a scout in local (that you couldn’t see), the gankers surely rolled your hole and ganked you. Currently ratting in C4-C6 is like ratting in nullsec, one jump away from the staging system of every serious Null group, with multiple neutrals on local. In capital ships.

To make it worse, while ganking is trivial, evicting a group is very hard. So there can’t even be one or two superpowers so you could rent from them. A somewhat competent group can gank everyone in all C4-C6 with no serious risk of revenge (they can be ganked while ratting too, but that’s not revenge, it would happen anyway).

With the planned changes WH players would have to accept what Bob deals, instead of just roll until they get what they want. This will make WH space livable again: you could still get unlucky with a ganker rolling into you, but you’ll have a nice chance that it won’t happen. This change will allow players to live in wormholes with the same risks as you can live in nullsec.

What will happen with the gankers who enjoyed killing everyone in sight while being safe in their fortresses from invasions and safe from small gangs who couldn’t roll holes? Who cares?! Their interest is to keep 30 regions of New Eden as their private playground. Listening to them would be just as madness as listening to The Mittani about “how to make nullsec accessible to the little guys” or James 315 about “how to make highsec mining more fun”.

Nah the major players in w-space would just form a fleet of PVP ships and a load of collapsing alts in battleships or Orca’s or whatever. It won’t change all that much would be my guess, it will just make life that much more dull and difficult.

All the whiny bitches are the ones that think that it was designed and made for how it is now and it doesnt need to be changed.

They are talking about making the range you spawn from the wormhole dependent on the mass of your ship. This means that caps like dreads would spawn up to 15k or more from the wormhole,

That would mean whilst you could still chain collapse it would take longer with capitals and you’d be putting the caps in a risky position as they would either have to warp off the wormhole and warp back or slow boat back.

Has anyone done the math to find out if slowboating is faster or is warping out the better option?

At the risk of having a serious discussion on this terrible article…
A dread currently takes 80-ish seconds at base, with skills its goes to around 30 or so. With a web, it doesnt matter because its like 10 seconds. Same thing with a freighter.

To slowboat fucking 19k (min distance according to the dev blog), you’re looking at around 4 minutes.

So… given warp time you can take 45 seconds or 5 minutes. Take your pick.

Gevlon you know nothing about wormholes. Let me correct some of your numerous mistakes:

1 – NullSec actually has more systems than WH space. Null has 3500 systems, WHs have 2500 systems.
2 – Nobody “rats” in a WH. People run sleeper sites. There are no bounties. The loot must be salvaged and shipped to k-space for sale.
3 – There is no “power projection” in WH space unless you count “jumping through a WH”.
4 – “Power projection” in WH space is already limited by the allowable mass of the WH connections.
    5. – Your interpretation is that this will make WH’s safer. How is that a good thing?

TL;DR version: Gevlon is bad and doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

    August 6, 2014 at 18:04 Reply
    1. Fdg

You seem to be confused about what power projection is. In short, it describes the amount of power you can project and the range it is limited by. Being able to repoint your wh to shortcut the path you’d otherwise need to traverse is the very definition of increasing your power projection.

      1. Justin Thomas

In EVE Online “force projection” involves jumping ships via cyno, which is not a mechanic that exists in WH space. By your logic, jumping 40 Rifters from Perimeter into Jita is an example of “force projection”. This may be a literal definition, but it is not what EVE players actually mean when they speak in terms of “force projection”.

And even if WH’s were an example of “force projection”, they pale in comparison to Titan bridges and Jump Bridges to the point that they’re not even relevant. Being able to jump maybe 3 capital ships through WH’s from one area of NullSec to another area of NullSec is irrelevant and I doubt it’s done very often when you can just cyno.

As far as “force projection” *within* WH’s… the range is always 1 jump, and the force is always a couple of caps and a tech3 fleet.

In short there’s no issue with WH “force projection”.

        1. dont really care

Force projection is how far you can PROJECT your FORCE. Whether it be by gate or cyno is no matter. While u do think its the wrong term to use for whs, being able to roll a hole til to

Again, literal definition vs what people in EVE actually mean when they talk about it.

And guess what? You can still roll holes until you get the one you want, it’s just a little harder.

Bad article, but the changes to WH’s are okay. They solve some problems, give everyone something and take away some things which honestly are stupid (or at least make them harder). Ragerolling is, from a conceptual point of view, really rather ludicrous. I get it sorta creates content, though really of a scrub variety. This game needs fleet actions, not more ganks.

Webs are great duh. the process will take 30 seconds longer which means you can still rage roll there is no change good job CCP

Have you ever played in wspace, Goblin? What you are writing there is absolute nonsense.

    1. Rage rolling is still possible with the changes, it will just be a little bit slower and more annoying
    2. Ratting is quitesafe if done right. Close your static and watch for spawning sigs.
    3. The changes make wh space LESS safe, not more. You will have connections that have small jump mass but high overall mass as well as regenerate mass, which mean they are impossible to close and will last long. Furthermore, MORE wanderings will spawn. This will lead to your statics being opened more often since people will warp your statics more often. This all makes living in a c3, *especially* for newer / fewer players much more difficult.

Wspace currently is the only space were a couple of new, inexperienced low-sp players can have a “home” system. Plant a pos, put some defense up and control your statics and you have your own part of space. With these changes, the established groups get much more power to harass smaller groups, and this will effectively make it so that there is nothing left for new players then high sec or renting, which they likely can not afford anyways.

This is crazy the proposed change for the mass throwing caps further from the hole is going to be damaging to Wormhole space there has been cases where people have rage rolled to a certain system, but do you even know how hard it is to roll to a select system you can keep rolling for days and now get to the system you want. The point of rolling a hole is to find content whether that be for farming or for PvP so rolling the hole is something important for both smaller corps and larger corps for 2 reasons 1 for isk making 2 for PvP both of which create content for players. This has to be the view of a null dweller that gets killed anytime he comes into a hole and that sees people that live in w-space as crazy shut ins that kill all we see. Please actually be informed on something before you spew crap like this out for everyone to see.
