Darwinism in action

July 17, 2014

several days ago a Bhaalgorn in Amarr picked a fight with another Bhaalgorn, while not something uncommon to happen in a trade hub the pilot and the fit are what makes the story.

Firstly the character that lost the Bhaalgorn is over 7 years old (all of which in a npc corp)

Looking into the character

Unknownful on the forums there are no threads created by this character (that i have been able to find via google/forum search) which means that the character in question is still owned by the person who subscribed 7 years ago, or that the character/account have been sold.

Secondly the character seemingly having been sold seems to fit as a 7year eve veteran would know better then to fit a Bhaalgorn like this :

Where to begin?

lets start with the highslots :

2x Dark blood mega pulse lasers
3x deadspace nosferatus
1 x Ammatar navy tachyon beam laser
1 x Darkblood tachyon beam laser

So we have expensive guns that are split in high dps and short range accompanied by long range dps with medium to high dps. The reason this is bad is you will never be able to fully apply all guns dps because of the inherent optimal range issues.

Next up is mid slots :

1 x Gist c-type invuln
1x Pith c-type large shield booster
1x Gist x-type 100m microwarp drive
1x Dread Guristas stasis web
1x Shadow Serpentis tracking computer (unscripted)

While not as bad as the highslots it still has a lack of dedicated goal in what he wants to do. The web likely being to help his long range guns hit close range targets accompanied with the tracking computer to help all his guns track the target better.
The invulnerability field and the shield booster again are not bad by themselves but are a bad choice on a boat like this because they are not accompanied by either rigs to help with shield tanking or another invulnerability field or even an em resistance module leaving him with a gaping em resistance hole with which his own ship would be able to exploit.

Lowslots :

>1 x deadspace a-type nano membranes
3x True Sansha power diagnostic systems
1x inertia stabilizer II
1x Corpus X-type large armor repairer
1x damage control II

This part may make sense to a newer player hoping for “Capacitor stability” by using the power diagnostics as the bonuses they give increase your capacitor, make your capacitor recharge faster, increases your shield hitpoints, increases the shield regeneration and increases the amount of available powergrid. While its a useful module, it wont be able to save him. Cap stability is overrated more often then not unless you have to have every module active 100% of the time. The most common method is “Pulsing” turning the cap using modules that suck up all the capacitor on for a single cycle then turning it back off for a short time.

The armor repair + damage control + nano membrane are the usual “Omni-damage” tanking style and are not a bad choice, but misses the explosive damage “hole” that is left (gap in resistances)
(Omni damage tanking is designed to tank each resistance roughly the same amount and is used in certain areas of the game that will have all damage types being used on the player close to equally. Think incursions, wormholes and on supercapitals/titans.)

Having tried to come up for a reason to use the inertia stabilizer in pve or pvp where i would need to stay in range of a target whilst in a battleship i can’t say i have found a reason that i would place this on a bhaalgorn over something more effective like another membrane or explosive hardener.

Finally the rigs

:
We have a large enery collision accelerator ( to increase the damage the gun does)
and we have an auxilary nano pump (increases the amount of armor repaired by the armor rep per cycle)

Having only 50 Calibration left on a faction battleship the pilot decides to simply leave this slot empty.

As can be imagined the Bhaalgorn does not last long against the Bhaalgorn piloted by Able Killer, someone who not only lives in Amaar but also seems to hunt for shiny and unsuspecting ships.
