Pushing the Envelope: The Bumping Orthrus.

June 16, 2014

In the Kronos Patch recently released the Mordus Legion ships came out. They were designed by the developers in order to:

“We also decided that we wanted them to be very fast skirmishers (partly emerging from the original idea of them having Minmatar influence”

It appears that the Orthrus, the Mordus Legion cruiser, is capable to fit a 100MN Microwarpdrive, be cap stable, and is still able to fit missiles. This propels it to an insane speed of over 6000 M/S. For comparison a Stabber Fleet Issue fit with all Nanofiber Internal Structure IIs hits 7402 meters with Quafe and Implants but the capacitor lasts only 26 seconds.

However if you add Quafe, links, Cap Recharger IIs and Implants to the Orthrus you get a beast that goes 13,390 M/S, does 344 dps, and is cap stable. People have already been complaining on the forums for months about how broken links are with the Garmur which I like to call the Nano-Orthrus:

“8.3km/sec before overheating, cap stable
150dps at 70km
59 km disruptor before overheating to 70km”

(These stats are taken from a forum thread on the Garmur, I have not checked them, I will update if found to be incorrect)

I hear that some people are already using this ship for bumping despite its large price tag. It can easily send a Retriever flying out of drone control range and then this allows the pilot of the Orthrus to quickly scoop the drones. Another possible use that I haven’t heard of actually being used is to bump freighters off gates out of sentry gun range. While possible it would take effort but is occasionally done now.

Only time will tell if the Orthruses large price tag will cause it to gain favor with bumpers as it can come to the cost of a full fit battleship. However this is not a question exclusive to the Orthrus as the cost versus effectiveness question is one that plagues all pirate ships but even normal T1 ships for that matter.

Where do you stand on the abilities of this ship? Let me know in the comments-
