Wormhole journey: finding a new place

May 24, 2014

If you missed my first article about what I’m about to do I’ll give you 2 minutes to go and read it… Okay done? Cool let’s start.

After reading a few comments about care bearing, I think I need to let you in on my background. I am a 99% PVP in Null with a big Alliance, which will remain opsec. I hardly do anything PVE besides killing rats on the gate while waiting to jump.  This WH adventure is something I have thought about doing for a while, but with the war all men are needed and in this semi-break I choose to test out WH life.

Part 1: finding a WH to live in.

Finding a new unused wormhole to live out of can be easy or extremely hard. As I stated, my friend already had a C3 wormhole set up so it was easy enough for me to get to it. So to pretend that I was new and looking, I decided to spend half a day looking for a empty WH. First couples of WH were occupied and not really welcoming, I kept on probing which ended up bring me all over EVE. A great way to find back-end systems with people ratting in carriers.

There are other means of finding a WH to live in, with many websites selling WHs and the Eve online forums have a section purely for trading WHs of any type.

Sweet, I found a wormhole a C3 with static LS (Low Sec) and it has Magnetar effect… What is Magnetar effect?!?

”A Magnetar is a type of neutron star with an extremely powerful magnetic field, the decay of which powers the emission of high-energy electromagnetic radiation, particularly very strong and characteristic bursts of X-rays and gamma rays. Magnetars are differentiated from other neutron stars by having even stronger magnetic fields, and rotating comparatively slowly, with most Magnetars completing a rotation once every one to ten seconds.”

Effects:

Targeting Range Bonus: -27%

Tracking Speed Multiplier: -27%

Damage Multiplier: +55%

AOE velocity Multiplier: -27%

Drone velocity Multiplier: -27%

If you want to look up more on the different effects EVE uni has a few articles about it.

Untitled-1

As I mentioned at the start of the adventure I already had a friend in a wormhole with 1 POS set-up, but nothing more than that. So I asked him if I could move in. Got a second POS and 2 alts; 1 Prober and 1 Hauler (JF/Freighter/Rorqual/Orca) alt into the hole.

Now how to get my main toon into this wormhole? Hmmm easy with a LS Sec entrance I’ll just cyno my carrier to the system and jump it in…… Lucky for me my friend was quick enough to tell me ”Nope, nada, are you crazy… You cannot get into a C3 with a carrier.”

First road block how do I get my stuff into this WH before it collapses? The old fashion way, bring them in 1 by 1 with a scout on both ends. I got all my stuff into the WH and logged off for the night. Pretty long day of scouting, making safes and looking around the empty WH.

The following day I logged on scanned down the exit, ate my breakfast and talked about T3 fits for the PVE sites. PVP fits were already in the hole, but I needed to get the isk coming in. With 6 combat sites to do I bubbled the WH exit and had an alt watching it.

One thing you notice about W-space is your’re alone, or not and there is little way to tell, D-scan becomes your best friend. Lucky enough for me D-scan caught an anathema in my hole so back to the POS I went to try and find out how it got in with me watching the exit. What I had not realize was a C4 opened while I was doing the site.

New tip; have D-scan and signatures open refreshing them to see if new sigs spawn. I scanned out the C4, checked it out and then watched it for a while. The residents jumped a few battleships in and out to make it verge of collapse meaning it will collapse every soon due to mass. They knew what they were doing as when the anathema jumped out it collapsed. Perfect back to PVEing.

Tired of PVEing, lets kill the POCOs.

So we needed to put up our own POCOs. We had 2 choices RF them or get in contact with the current owners and we made the decision to blow them up. POP UP!, the owner of the POCOs opened convo with me and asked to make a deal to transfer over the ownership… How much and how can we do it? A price was found, but the issue was now we needed to get him into our WH to perform the transfer. Okay, we gave him our entrance system and he was 31 jumps away. Perfect enough time to get the hole EOL and put bubbles and scouts on both sides. With him on comms and talked about WH life.

We will call him Alex, he informed us that he was living in our WH about 3 months ago but one day while they were moving to a C5 the alt who was in system didn’t understand and jumped out collapsing the only way to get back. After the transaction, we talked more about WH life and he explained that it’s not that easy to get people to join. They have issue understanding how it works and not really sure about.

Thanks Alex for the easy trade, and all the tips you had. Special thanks to all the tips people gave me from the first article.

Stay tuned next week for more adventures from a small C3 wormhole, that is unless I go crazy from being far from my PVP friends.

(Goonion still has not been able to find me, Stay tuned to the next article to see if he does!)
