Drama is commonplace in EvE Online. One example of this is the recent spat that occurred in the Gallente Militia between a few alliances, notably Rainbow Dash Friends, Monkeys with Guns and Villore Accords, where internal war declarations have taken place and continue.
I was provided with the following mail and subsequently decided to investigate the actual cause of the conflict.
GMVA diplomatic message
From: Julianus Soter
Sent: 2013.06.22 23:43
To: Alamar Caledane, Elijah Ghost, Glitch Lampshade,
Our diplomat composed the following message:
“Unfortunately war seems unavoidable.
Glitch and many of his subordinates have managed to irritate many of our CEOs and Directors to the point of war, myself included. My personal gripe with him is his attempt to hire my directors out from under me. If this corporation wasn’t as much theirs as it is mine they may have taken the offer and I would have been left in a very tight spot. How can we fight the Caldari and defend ourselves against pirates when we are dealing with these kinds of rogue problems from someone who is supposed to fly our banner alongside us as a comrade? War with a fellow faction member is the last thing I ever want to see, but it’s hard to feel a sense of brotherhood to a group who behaves as yours does.
This is not personal, this is because it needs to happen.
Lead Diplomat of Villore Accords
CEO of Gespenster Kompanie.”
This is the sentiment of the Alliance as a whole.
Frustration is high at the moment, and the only solution it seems to be is to declare war to make our position clear.
Any of the following conditions is sufficient for end of the war.
1) Leave faction warfare.
2) Move from the Nennamaila system to another constellation or region, in a station not currently used by GMVA for operations. This would provide the necessary space to coexist in the militia, while not having the same drama problems we currently have.
I approached the leadership from those entities involved with the hope of discovering the cause of the dispute.
Originally he stated :
Glitch Lampshade > my pilot entered a plex. Was asked to leave. He didn’t. GMVA and Banana killed him… so surely that’s his punishment enough for his stupidity.
This then developed further when GMVA “Were stating there were reasons for us to receive a wardec but could list no more than 2″ as Glitch himself mentioned that he’d take his corp to null due to lack of interest in militia, Soter then “tried to get me and my corp banned from all fleets and Intel channels and TS. When I’m their main fc. Like what the fuck lol”
So when the wardec came he said:
Glitch Lampshade > so when the inevitable wardecs came through i had a choice. we stay and bloody and destroy galmil . Or we leave and acccept an offer for what i believe was more fun pasture. we accepted and instantly Banana decided to drop the war dec, we still have GMVA . im happy for them to pay 200m a month for being stupid and causing this drama
When asked what he would like to see as an outcome he said that:
Glitch Lampshade > The petty ness of galmil goes…right now all i want is enjoy the new alliance im in. Id love an official statement from GMVA and banana that wont happen though lol.
According to him whilst this was going on “Calmil were plexing like crazy, we were loosing more system and others vulnerable. and they still are. Due to hitting T1 we don’t have plexers so I’m sure all but a few systems will fall” and he thinks that:
Glitch Lampshade > the whole incident has been a targeted attack, driven by a campaign of jealousy, hate, bandwagoning and pettiness. In the end i chose to stand up and leave FW beacuse a war in between significant people in the same militia would be a blood bath for both sides. Especially as one is one of the primary Fcslol. We accepted a good offer, and whilst I would like a apology, it’s not going to happen.
According to Julianus:
Julianus Soter > Fallen supremacy’s recruitment has exploded the past several months, with detrimental results to that cooperation. With many of my corporation’s members, for example, refused to join fleets with Fallen supremacy-led efforts starting several months ago, because of bad experiences they had with personalities they encountered in this new recruitment wave.
This then developed to “incidents occurring between Fallen Supremacy and GMVA pilots that required high-level diplomacy,” which began with a “war of words that included a racial slur.” He then “attempted to discuss the situation with Glitch Lampshade. He assured us the matter would be looked into.”
However, “A second diplomatic incident occured when W Rush stole loyalty points from an offensive plex being captured by another pilot.” “GMVA Directors and leadership attempted to talk to W Rush to resolve the incident before the points were taken” but “ll chat requests were denied by W Rush, and he blocked all further communications from GMVA personnel, as he completed the plex and took a portion of the loyalty points from the site.” So the GMVA and a BNANA pilot opened fire and destroyed him.
A discussion then took place with Glitch Lampshade where “He indicated no further action was necessary.” The discussion then continued and “several additional incidents came to light” including recruitment of “other GMVA leadership personal,” “As well as calling for assistance from, and then abandoning, friendly GMVA and BNANA pilots to hostile fleets.”
Following this Julianus stated that:
Julianus Soter > All CEO’s active voted, and the decision was unanimous, to declare a limited war against Fallen Supremacy, to resolve the issues between us.
With the terms of the wardec detailed in the message at the beginning of this article. “BNANA had similar grievances, and acting in support of GMVA, followed us into the wardec.”
When asked what he hoped to occur now he stated that:
Julianus Soter > We do not wish to continue the wardec. We have fun fights with Fallen Supremacy and, now that they’ve joined Rainbowdash friends, their alliance, but a continued wardec is not productive to either side.
As this has been occurring “The Caldari have launched an offensive in the past few days which has stepped up the game in the Placid and Black Rise region. Fallen Supremacy typically did not assist in territorial occupation, they provided PVP support mainly.”
With Julianus finishing by saying:
Julianus Soter > So, I can’t say what they would have done. We do appreciate every pilot in the fight, but, in this case, our differences couldn’t be resolved any other way, in the judgement of our CEO’s
Mirana Niranne of Monkeys with Guns:
Due to timezone issues an interview wasn’t possible so the following was sent in an Eve mail in response to my questions, which can be found here.
According to Mirana:
The issue was between GMVA and Fallen Supremacy mostly. Soter and Glitch know each other IRL. BNANA never really had an issue with Glitch personally, but with several of his members who would request assistance, and then when BNANA would respond, would warp out and leave our guys in what appeared to be a trap.
He stated that “a lot of our pilots in BNANA considered his FCing to be questionable, others really didn’t care as he was at least FCing.” Though to his understanding “When FLSY was in GMVA my understanding is that Glitch caused a good deal of drama, one instance of which nearly caused their alliance to implode.” He was apparently told that “he’d attempted to take over GMVA at least once.”
On the wardec itself he said that:
As to the wardec, it was a sort of last straw situation between GMVA and them, we had told GMVA that as their ally we would support them in the war. As soon as it was declared, Glitch announced that his guys were joining rainbow dash anyway, he left militia and joined them the following day.
When asked if he foresees this having any effect of the current situation in the warzone he had this to say:
Sure, he was an FC for a while, how good he was depends on who you talk to and how drunk he was at the time. Towards the end his effect was becoming more negative than positive, talking about leaving militia to go full pie and such, the general reaction was to get on with it and stop pussyfooting around. In the end, the wardec probably helped him make up his mind. Glitch always had a flare for the dramatic, and without him, the drama factor has gone down a bit, and we’re able to focus on more important things than the latest thing one of his corp members did to cause trouble with someone.
According to all sides involved it appears that the reason for the war was primarily nothing of any real consequence although it could have an effect on the militia as a whole if it causes pilots to doubt the entities they are part of.
At the time of writing Caldari Militia are the ones holding the dominant position in the warzone with the ability to control most of the plexes from farmers so the gallente may need all the help they can get if they hope to prevent the fall of their warzone they may need to put all bad feelings aside.
