I have never been a fan of these “rockstar developer” videos yet a lot of people like them and they prove to be quite informative. Here is the latest one released by CCP Games.

EVE Online: Retribution 1.1 is shipping February 19, 2013 with a bunch of new features and improvements for the EVE Universe. In this first video in a new In Development series, the video team takes a look at some of what’s in store: Orbital Bombardment, Info Panels, Dueling, Route Visualization and more.

Good stuff!

The stars match up on the UI and map… so useless and cool at the same time.

I'm not sure if its useless, because it adds so much immersion without being one of those "feature creep" things.

Its is essentially useless…. But I cant wait to see it cause it really will add a bit of depth & location awareness to the space and makes that starfield feel like a real part of your enviroment as opposed to just a pretty wallpaper.

You know there isn't much content to talk about when 50% of the video is retarded acting and role playing . How about next vid they ditch all the antics and actually let the devs provide more detail on the features ?

There are dev blogs for that. These are intended to be short, creative and engaging videos which don't merely tell us some information, but let us – in some manner – get to know the developers behind the game. I love the humour, and the "we don't take ourselves too seriously" acting. It's fantastic, and makes CCP more human, for those of us who haven't had the chance to go to fanfest.

Devblogs and patchnotes provide the detail. These videos just highlight the main features to wet your appetite.

Well, not yours clearly, but everyone else who has a sense of humour.

Dueling will make a much bigger change to EvE then I think CCP realizes. It will remove almost all the PvP from low sec as people will be able to engage at will in high sec. Low sec will become even more deserted then it already is. It will make null sec less popular for the same reason. It will make faction warfare less popular as now you can pick and choose your targets in a safe environment. Jita numbers will at least double or triple or even more, filled with people who want to PvP at will and get cheep replacements. Can the servers handle that? I can see CCP doing emergency patches to compensate for the big ways in which it will move people into high sec and especially trade hubs.

You have completely failed to understand what duelling is. Are you a James 315 supporter?

the point of PvP in faction warfare is to end up aiding a faction, not just killing others. Factional warfare sites create interesting scenarios that are completely different from simple duels where you know you will be getting a fight and how many people you are fighting. It will not kill factional warfare. Also, you cant really have a fleet fight with duel mechanics because you cannot remote rep someone who is in a limited engagement without a suspect timer.

It wont have that big an impact. When you are flagged for dueling, you are flagged with one player. You can't gank someone unwillingly.

Consensual PVP is not what drives Low sec or any gang warfare for that matter. Granted, sometimes it does occur.

Most people who like to tourney PVP have to do it on test server or join the same corp and duel. This is just an additional feature for PVP that will allow anyone to take a shot at another without outside interference. (No need for that "Come at me bro and take my jetted can!" shit).
